Effect of donor solvents on the properties of triethylgermyllithium and related compounds

  • Published:
Bulletin of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, Division of chemical science Aims and scope

Conclusions

  1. 1.

The PMR method enables the state of the ion pairs in the compounds Et3GeM (M=Li, Na, K, Rb, Cs) to be monitored from the change in the value of the internal chemical shift Δ of the protons of the ethyl group.

  2. 2.

2,2-Dimethylbutan-3-one reacts with Et3GeM with formation of the carbinol Et3Ge(tBu)MeCOH or the ambidentate enolate-anion [t-BuCOOH2]M+, which is determined by the nature of the cation M and the solvent.

  3. 3.

The transmetallation reaction has been studied of the compounds Et3GeM and Et3SiM, which is based on the replacement of a less electropositive alkali metal M by a more electropositive metal.
