Summary

This paper deals with the results of aircraft ascents for the measurement of the vertical distribution of atmospheric trace gases in the free atmosphere. The aircraft ascents permitted for the first time to measure the SO2- and NO2-concentration up to 6000 m. On the basis of the average distribution assumptions on the tropospheric budget of SO2 and NO2 as well as on the average tropospheric residence time of these gases were made.
