Abstract
THROMBIN preparations catalyse the hydrolysis of synthetic arginyl1 and lysyl2 substrates. While plasmin and trypsin may appear as contaminants in thrombin preparations, we present here kinetic data for the action of these three enzymes toward p-toluenesulphonyl-L-arginine methyl ester (I) and the methyl and ethyl esters of lysine which rule out plasmin or trypsin impurities as the origin of the lysyl esterase activity of thrombin.
