This study develops a robust 0–1 linear optimization programming model for airport group timetable coordination, aiming at assigning each flight at an airport to a unique time slot to avoid conflicts between multiple flights from different airports at the same shared waypoint in an uncertain environment. Flight times between airports and shared waypoints are assumed to have an arbitrary distribution in the interval. Furthermore, some practical constraints, such as the time-varying capacity of each airport, waypoints affected by factors such as weather and traffic control, and maximum delay times for each flight, are considered in this study. The objective is to minimize the total delay time for all flights. The solution is obtained using the RSOME solver. Finally, a real-world case of the Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei airport group, China, is used to optimize the schedules of four airports to prove the accuracy and effectiveness of the method developed in this study. The influence of the budget of uncertainty parameters on model performance is also analyzed. Full article

Classical swine fever (CSF), caused by the classical swine fever virus (CSFV), results in significant economic losses to the swine industry in many countries. Vaccination represents the primary strategy to control CSF and the CSFV E2 protein is known as the major protective antigen. However, the E2 protein expressed or presented by different systems elicits distinct immune responses. In this study, we established a stable CHO cell line to express the E2 protein and delivered it using self-assembled ferritin nanoparticles (NPs). Subsequently, we compared the adaptive immune responses induced by the E2-ferritin NPs and the monomeric E2 protein produced by the CHO cells or a baculovirus expression system. The results revealed that the NP-delivered E2 protein elicited higher titers of neutralizing antibodies than did the monomeric E2 protein in pigs. Importantly, only the NP-delivered E2 protein significantly induced CSFV-specific IFN-γ-secreting cells. Furthermore, all the pigs inoculated with the E2-ferritin NPs were completely protected from a lethal CSFV challenge infection. These findings demonstrate the ability of the E2-ferritin NPs to protect pigs against the lethal CSFV challenge by eliciting robust humoral and cellular immune responses. Full article

Quality and Readability of Google Search Information on HoLEP for Benign Prostate Hyperplasia

Objective: To assess the quality and readability of online information on holmium laser enucleation of the prostate in managing benign prostate hyperplasia using the most-used search engine worldwide, Google. Methods: Google search terms “Holmium laser surgery” and “enlarged prostate” were used to generate 150 search results. Two independent authors (i) excluded any paywall, scientific literature, or advertisement and (ii) conducted an independent assessment on information quality, which was based on DISCERN, QUEST, and JAMA criteria, and readability, which was based on the FKG, GFI, SMOG, and FRE scores on qualified webpages. A third author was involved if there were any discrepancies between the assessments. Results: 107 qualified webpages were included in the data analysis. The median DISCERN score was 42 out of 80 (IQR 35–49). The median JAMA score was 0 out of 4 (IQR 0–1). The median QUEST score was 9 out of 28 (IQR 9–12). Using the non-parametric ANOVA and post hoc Games–Howell test, significant differences were identified between rankings of webpages. Sponsorship had no influence on the quality of webpages. The overall readability level required a minimum reading level of grade 11. Linear regression analysis showed that a higher ranked webpage is a positive predictor for all three quality assessment tools. Conclusions: The overall quality of online information on HoLEP is poor. We identify that the top-ranked google searches have a higher DISCERN score and are a positive predictor for DISCERN/QUEST/JAMA. Quality online information can benefit patients but should be used in conjunction with professional medical consultation. Full article

TikTok has become a hub for easily accessible medical information. However, the quality and completeness of this information for testicular cancer has not been examined. Our study aims to assess the quality and completeness of testicular cancer information on TikTok. A search was performed on TikTok using the search terms “Testicular Cancer” and “Testicle Cancer”. Inclusion criteria encompassed videos about testicular cancer in English. We excluded non-English videos, irrelevant videos, and videos without audio. We evaluated these videos using the DISCERN instrument and a completeness assessment. A total of 361 videos were considered for screening and 116 videos were included. Of these, 57 were created by healthcare professionals (HCPs). The median video length was 40 s (5–277 s), with >25 million cumulative views and a median of 446,400 views per video. The average DISCERN score was 29.0 ± 5.7, with HCPs providing higher-quality videos than non-HCPs (30.8 vs. 5.5, p < 0.05). HCPs also had more reliable videos (21.2 vs. 18.1, p < 0.05). Overall quality levels were mostly poor or very poor (97.4%), with none being good or excellent. Most HCP videos were poor (63.2%), whilst many non-HCP videos were very poor (61.0%). The most viewed video had 2,800,000 views but scored a 31 on the DISCERN tool and one on the completeness assessment. The highest DISCERN score had 11,700 views. HCP videos better defined the disease and were more complete (p < 0.05). Most videos discussed self-assessment but were lacking in definitions, risk factors, symptoms, evaluation, management, and outcomes. Most of TikTok’s testicular cancer information lacks quality and completeness, whilst higher-quality videos have limited reach. Full article

Vaccination has emerged as the most effective tool in the battle against COVID-19. To optimize vaccination protocols, a deeper understanding of the immune response to vaccination, including influential factors and its duration, is essential. This study aimed to assess the humoral response in vaccinated individuals with or without prior SARS-CoV-2 infection. A prospective observational study was conducted across 14 private healthcare structures in Greece. Anti-spike IgG titers were measured at different timepoints following the initial vaccination and booster doses of the BNT162b2, mRNA-1273, ChAdOx1 nCoV-19, and Ad26.COV2.S vaccines. A total of 505 participants were included in the first phase, evaluating the humoral response after the initial vaccination, and 311 participants were involved in the second phase, assessing the effects of booster vaccination. All vaccines elicited high anti-S IgG titers initially, followed by a subsequent decline that was addressed by the booster vaccination. The humoral response was sustained up to one year after the booster vaccination. mRNA vaccines induced higher anti-S IgG titers compared to vector vaccines, with mRNA-1273 eliciting higher titers than BNT162b2. Vaccination resulted in higher antibody titers than natural infection alone; however, convalescent patients who received vaccination had significantly higher anti-S IgG titers compared to those who received the booster vaccine without previous SARS-CoV-2 infection. Lower antibody titers were observed in men and older patients (>51.5 years old), as well as smokers, although the decline rate was lower in these subgroups. These results underscore the importance of booster doses and reveal the potential influence of age, gender, smoking habits, and vaccine type on varying humoral responses. Long-term monitoring of antibody persistence, evaluation of cellular immune responses, and assessment of vaccine efficacy against emerging variants should be considered to enhance our understanding of immunity dynamics and inform vaccine development and deployment strategies. An Observational Study Suggests That Natural HAdV-36 Infection Decreases Blood Glucose Levels without Affecting Insulin Levels in Obese Young Subjects

Human adenovirus-36 (HAdV-36) infection has been linked to obesity, low lipid levels, and improvements in blood glucose levels and insulin sensitivity in animal models and humans, although epidemiological studies remain controversial. Therefore, this study investigated the relationship between HAdV-36 seropositivity and glycemic control in youths. This observational study examined 460 youths (246 with normal weight and 214 obese subjects). All participants underwent assessments for anthropometry, blood pressure, circulating fasting levels of glucose, lipids, insulin, and anti-HAdV-36 antibodies; additionally, the homeostatic model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) was calculated. In all, 57.17% of the subjects were HAdV-36 seropositive. Moreover, HAdV-36 seroprevalence was higher in obese subjects compared to their normal weight counterparts (59% vs. 55%). BMI (33.1 vs. 32.3 kg/m2, p = 0.03), and waist circumference (107 vs. 104 cm, p = 0.02), insulin levels (21 vs. 16.3 µU/mL, p = 0.003), and HOMA-IR (4.6 vs. 3.9, p = 0.02) were higher in HAdV-36-positive subjects with obesity compared to seronegative subjects. In the obese group, HAdV-36 seropositivity was associated with a reducing effect in blood glucose levels in a model adjusted for total cholesterol, triglyceride levels, age and sex (β = −10.44, p = 0.014). Furthermore, a statistically significant positive relationship was observed between HAdV-36 seropositivity and insulin levels in the obesity group. These findings suggest that natural HAdV-36 infection improves glycemic control but does not ameliorate hyperinsulinemia in obese subjects. Full article

EIMIs face the challenge of adapting to the Paris Agreement and the European Green Deal to achieve carbon neutrality. Driven by consumer interest in low-carbon products, regulatory requirements, and investor priorities, companies are pressured to integrate sustainability beyond short-term financial gains. The growing awareness of the environmental impact of business models (BM) has fueled the development of Sustainable Business Models (SBMs). Although the importance of decarbonization of EIMIs has increased, there is a lack of industry-specific research examining the combination of decarbonization and business models, as well as their interrelationships and correlations. This study addresses the discussion on the role of SBMs in decarbonization, improving the understanding of how these drivers can be integrated to enable new BMs for EIMIs. Based on a structured literature review and semi-structured interviews within the EIMIs, the study identifies BM components influenced by these drivers requiring sustainable business model innovation (SBMI). Results show that decarbonization drivers significantly impact all BM components. Experts emphasize the importance of collaborative approaches and cooperation throughout the value chain. This research highlights the need for systematic analysis to understand how companies can manage decarbonization drivers effectively and suggests exploring potential SBM design options. Full article

Synovial Membrane Is a Major Producer of Extracellular Inorganic Pyrophosphate in Response to Hypoxia

Calcium pyrophosphate dehydrate (CPPD) crystals are found in the synovial fluid of patients with articular chondrocalcinosis or sometimes with osteoarthritis. In inflammatory conditions, the synovial membrane (SM) is subjected to transient hypoxia, especially during movement. CPPD formation is supported by an increase in extracellular inorganic pyrophosphate (ePPi) levels, which are mainly controlled by the transporter Ank and ectonucleotide pyrophosphatase/phosphodiesterase 1 (ENPP1). We demonstrated previously that transforming growth factor (TGF)-β1 increased ePPi production by inducing Ank and Enpp1 expression in chondrocytes. As the TGF-β1 level raises in synovial fluid under hypoxic conditions, we investigated whether hypoxia may transform SM as a major source of ePPi production. Synovial fibroblasts and SM explants were exposed to 10 ng/mL of TGF-β1 in normoxic or hypoxic (5% O2) culture conditions. Ank and Enpp1 expression were assessed by quantitative PCR, Western blot and immunohistochemistry. ePPi was quantified in culture supernatants. RNA silencing was used to define the respective roles of Ank and Enpp1 in TGF-β1-induced ePPi generation. The molecular mechanisms involved in hypoxia were investigated using an Ank promoter reporter plasmid for transactivation studies, as well as gene overexpression and RNA silencing, the respective role of hypoxia-induced factor (HIF)-1 and HIF-2. Our results showed that TGF-β1 increased Ank, Enpp1, and therefore ePPi production in synovial fibroblasts and SM explants. Ank was the major contributor in ePPi production compared to ENPP1. Hypoxia increased ePPi levels on its own and enhanced the stimulating effect of TGF-β1. Hypoxic conditions enhanced Ank promoter transactivation in an HIF-1-dependent/HIF-2-independent fashion. We demonstrated that under hypoxia, SM is an important contributor to ePPi production in the joint through the induction of Enpp1 and Ank. These findings are of interest as a rationale for the beneficial effect of anti-inflammatory drugs on SM in crystal depositions. Full article

Sodium–Glucose Cotransporter 2 Inhibitor Combined with Conventional Diuretics Ameliorate Body Fluid Retention without Excessive Plasma Volume Reduction

We previously reported that sodium–glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors exert sustained fluid homeostatic actions through compensatory increases in osmotic diuresis-induced vasopressin secretion and fluid intake. However, SGLT2 inhibitors alone do not produce durable amelioration of fluid retention. In this study, we examined the comparative effects of the SGLT2 inhibitor dapagliflozin (SGLT2i group, n = 53) and the combined use of dapagliflozin and conventional diuretics, including loop diuretics and/or thiazides (SGLT2i + diuretic group, n = 23), on serum copeptin, a stable, sensitive, and simple surrogate marker of vasopressin release and body fluid status. After six months of treatment, the change in copeptin was significantly lower in the SGLT2i + diuretic group than in the SGLT2i group (−1.4 ± 31.5% vs. 31.5 ± 56.3%, p = 0.0153). The change in the estimated plasma volume calculated using the Strauss formula was not significantly different between the two groups. Contrastingly, changes in interstitial fluid, extracellular water, intracellular water, and total body water were significantly lower in the SGLT2i + diuretic group than in the SGLT2i group. Changes in renin, aldosterone, and absolute epinephrine levels were not significantly different between the two groups. In conclusion, the combined use of the SGLT2 inhibitor dapagliflozin and conventional diuretics inhibited the increase in copeptin levels and remarkably ameliorated fluid retention without excessively reducing plasma volume and activating the renin–angiotensin–aldosterone and sympathetic nervous systems. (1) Background: The recent emphasis on sexual and gender diversity’s impact on human health underscores the need for tailored diagnostic and therapeutic approaches in neurology. The aim of this article is to conduct a narrative review of the available scientific literature on sex differences in cerebrospinal fluid analysis. (2) Methods: The literature search encompassed PubMed databases, focusing on cerebrospinal fluid analysis and sex differences, considering parameters like cerebrospinal fluid protein content, cell count, albumin quotient (QAlb) and intrathecal IgG synthesis. (3) Results: Nine articles from the past two decades were identified, revealing limited research in this area. Males consistently exhibited higher cerebrospinal fluid protein content and albumin quotient values across various pathologies and age groups. Consequently, males more frequently manifested blood–cerebrospinal fluid barrier dysfunction than females. No significant sex differences were observed in cerebrospinal fluid leukocyte count or intrathecal IgG synthesis. (4) Conclusions: This review highlights the dearth of research on sex differences in cerebrospinal fluid analysis, despite consistent findings of higher protein content and albumin quotient values in males. Revisiting current diagnostic thresholds based on sex is crucial for accurate prognosis and personalised treatment strategies in neurological disorders. Moving towards sex-specific approaches in clinical practice is imperative for advancing personalised medicine. Full article

In Situ Thermal Interactions of Cu-Based Anti-Corrosion Coatings on Steel Implemented by Surface Alloying

Incorporating expensive alloying elements into bulk steel for corrosion protection is undesirable, considering that only the surfaces are exposed to aggressive environments. Therefore, this work focused on developing and optimizing a new surface functioning technology through in situ observation of thermal interactions between the metallic powders at elevated temperatures. The study revealed that the Cu-Ni powder mixture, with 12.5 wt% Ni, began to melt at 1099.5 °C and was fully melted at 1175 °C, significantly different from the Cu-Ni solid solution and bulk Cu or Ni. As a result of high-temperature reactions, copper penetration of up to 35 µm for pure copper and 55 µm for copper-chromium composite coatings occurred due to liquid metal corrosion. In contrast, the copper-nickel composite coating exhibited a cupronickel solution microstructure with FeNi dendrites and a nickel-rich transition layer. This cupronickel coating, with a chemical composition of 89.3 wt% Cu, 6.2 wt% Ni, and 4.5 wt% Fe, demonstrated uniform thickness, superior surface morphology, and continuous coverage on the steel substrate. Furthermore, the Ni-rich transition layer played a vital role in preventing copper penetration along the grain boundary of the steel matrix while forming a chemical binding between the coating and the substrate. The practicality of the coating was further confirmed through the hot-rolling procedure and subsequent electrochemical corrosion tests, which resulted in a 44% improvement in corrosion resistance. Peri-implantitis has an inflammatory nature, it is associated with the accumulation of plaque in the peri-implant tissues, and its evolution can be progressive depending on various factors, comorbidities, and poor oral health. Prophylaxis and different treatment methods have been widely discussed in recent decades, and surgical and non-surgical techniques present both advantages and disadvantages. In this work, a literature review of different studies on the application of adjuvant treatments, such as local and systemic antibiotics and antiseptic treatments, was conducted. Positive outcomes have been found in the short (up to one year after treatment) and long term (up to ten years after treatment) with combined therapies. However, there is still a need to explore new therapies based on the use of advanced drug delivery systems for the effective treatment of peri-implantitis in the long term and without relapses. Hence, micro- and nanoparticles, implants, and injectable hydrogels, among others, should be considered in future peri-implantitis treatment with the aim of enhancing overall therapy outcomes. The TiN thin film is considered a promising electrode layer for 3D capacitors. In this study, TiN thin films were prepared on Si substrates using atomic layer deposition (ALD) at various temperatures from 375 °C to 475 °C. The crystallization behavior, microstructure, and conductance properties of those TiN thin films were investigated. The resistivity of TiN thin films deposited on Si wafers can reach as low as 128 μΩ·cm. TiN thin films showed lower resistivity and worse uniformity with the deposition temperature increasing. In addition, the aging of TiN thin films may weaken the device performance. Optimized deposition parameters were found and full-coverage deposition of thin films on the wall of deep holes with an aspect ratio of approximately 14 has been successfully achieved. The results would be a good reference for the development of 3D capacitors and other microelectronics components. Full article

During the operation of hypersonic vehicles, a reciprocal coupling effect is manifested between the inlet and the combustion chamber. This results in an unavoidable non-uniformity of conditions at the combustion chamber’s entrance, which, in turn, influences the fuel mixing within the chamber. The present study employed the Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes (RANS) equations to perform a numerical simulation of an X-51-like vehicle, with a focus on examining the impact of isolation section length and multi-injection strategies on the fuel mixing characteristics within the combustion chamber under conditions of non-uniform inflow. The findings indicated that a supersonic non-uniform inlet triggers incident shock waves, leading to a non-uniform pressure distribution across the flow section. Moreover, the position of injection was found to be pivotal in regulating penetration depth and mixing efficiency. The incident shock wave, bow shock, and boundary layer separation shock interacted with each other to increase local pressure. The coupling of high and low pressures generated an adverse pressure gradient that led to boundary layer separation, which further enhanced fuel penetration depth. Full article

Orexin-A is a neuropeptide product of the lateral hypothalamus that acts on two receptors, OX1R and OX2R. The orexinergic system is involved in feeding, sleep, and pressure regulation. Recently, orexin-A levels have been found to be negatively correlated with renal function. Here, we analyzed orexin-A levels as well as the incidence of SNPs in the hypocretin neuropeptide precursor (HCRT) and its receptors, HCRTR1 and HCRTR2, in 64 patients affected by autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) bearing truncating mutations in the PKD1 or PKD2 genes. Twenty-four healthy volunteers constituted the control group. Serum orexin-A was assessed by ELISA, while the SNPs were investigated through Sanger sequencing. Correlations with the main clinical features of PKD patients were assessed. PKD patients showed impaired renal function (mean eGFR 67.8 ± 34.53) and a statistically higher systolic blood pressure compared with the control group (p < 0.001). Additionally, orexin-A levels in PKD patients were statistically higher than those in healthy controls (477.07 ± 69.42 pg/mL vs. 321.49 ± 78.01 pg/mL; p < 0.001). Furthermore, orexin-A inversely correlated with blood pressure (p = 0.0085), while a direct correlation with eGFR in PKD patients was found. None of the analyzed SNPs showed any association with orexin-A levels in PKD. In conclusion, our data highlights the emerging role of orexin-A in renal physiology and its potential relevance to PKD. Further research is essential to elucidate the intricate mechanisms underlying orexin-A signaling in renal function and its therapeutic implications for PKD and associated cardiovascular complications Full article

Volkswagen Technical Development (TE) is responsible for all prototype development and prototype production for the Volkswagen brand and has its own logistics department (TE-Logistics). In the logistics of prototype parts in the automotive industry, new versions of prototype parts (henceforth referred to as updating parts) are repeatedly assembled in finished prototype vehicles. These updating parts are stored in warehouses and provided to an assembly site to ensure a timely assembly of the associated prototype vehicles. As the internal warehouse on the company site is not large enough for the high variety of parts, an additional external warehouse in the logistics network is needed. However, since prototype parts are unique, the allocation of the parts in suitable warehouses is particularly important. Currently, the various warehouses and the short-term demands repeatedly lead to reactive transshipments between the warehouses. To this end, we developed an approach for proactive transshipments based on a machine learning forecast and a mixed-integer linear programming model for planning proactive transshipments of parts between the warehouses to minimize transport costs. The model is based on a probability estimation of future demands to anticipate the expected optimal warehouse. After the model had revealed high improvement potential through a case study with real-world data in terms of costs and availability time compared to the current reactive process, we derived decision rules and developed a rule-based heuristic algorithm that leads to the optimal solution for the industrial use case. We implemented the heuristic with a spreadsheet-based decision support system (DSS) for daily transshipment planning. After successful test implementation, TE-Logistics estimated the annual cost savings for transport to be approximately 10%. Full article

Circulating plasma cells (CPCs) are detected in most multiple myeloma (MM) patients, both at diagnosis and on relapse. A small subset, plasma cell leukemia (PCL), represents a different biology and has a poor prognosis. In this retrospective analysis, we evaluated patients with primary (pPCL, n = 35) or secondary (sPCL, n = 49), with ≥5% CPCs and a smaller subset with lower CPCs of 1–4% (n = 20). The median age was 61 years; 45% were men and 54% were Black. High-risk cytogenetics were found in 87% and extramedullary disease in 47%. For the entire cohort, 75% received a proteasome inhibitor, 70% chemotherapy, 54% an immunomodulatory drug, 24% a daratumumab-based regimen and 26% an autologous stem cell transplant (ASCT). The treatments marginally improved the overall survival (OS) for pPCL vs. sPCL (13 vs. 3.5 months p = 0.002). However, the 5-year survival for the whole cohort was dismal at 11%. High-risk cytogenetics, low platelets, extramedullary disease and high LDH were independently associated with poor outcomes. Further research is urgently needed to expand the treatment options and improve the outcomes in PCL. Full article

A scientific and logical tunnel entrance lighting environment is an important guarantee for the safety of drivers entering tunnels as well as an essential element for the sustainable development of the tunnel. At present, most of the highway tunnel entrance lighting environment focuses on the road surface luminance and does not consider the variation of correlated color temperatures (CCT) on the driver’s vision in the tunnel access zone. This study analyzes the temporal and spatial variation of the ambient CCT in the driver’s 20° field of view during the approach to the tunnel through field dynamic tests of existing tunnels in the Beijing area. As a result, the CCT received by the driver’s eyes when approaching the tunnel peaks at the midpoint of the tunnel access zone, after which it decreases slowly up to the tunnel portal. Moreover, a calculation model of the CCT outside the tunnel with the solar irradiance, the distance from the tunnel portal, and the CCT of tunnel interior lighting as the input parameters is established. The modeling methodology was validated in a new tunnel, and the calculation model’s average absolute error is within 5%, which could provide guidance for the selection of the tunnel interior lighting CCT and a basis for the design of intelligent control of sustainable lighting systems in tunnels. Background: Recurrent ovarian cancer (ROC) significantly challenges gynecological oncology due to its poor outcomes. This study assesses the impact of cytoreductive surgery (CRS) combined with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) on ROC survival rates. Materials and Methods: Conducted at the Medical University of Lublin from April 2011 to November 2022, this retrospective observational study involved 71 patients with histologically confirmed ROC who underwent CRS and subsequent HIPEC. Results: The median overall survival (OS) was 41.1 months, with 3-year and 5-year survival rates post-treatment of 0.50 and 0.33, respectively. Patients undergoing radical surgery for primary ovarian cancer had a median OS of 61.9 months. The key survival-related factors included the Peritoneal Carcinomatosis Index (PCI) score, AGO score, platinum sensitivity, and ECOG status. Conclusions: The key factors enhancing ROC patients’ survival include radical surgery, optimal performance status, platinum sensitivity, a positive AGO score, and a lower PCI. This study highlights the predictive value of the platinum resistance and AGO score in patient outcomes, underlining their role in treatment planning. Further prospective research is needed to confirm these results and improve patient selection for this treatment approach. Full article

Bullfighting tourism is a recent tourism modality that is in constant growth, and which consists of visits to bullfighting ranches with the aim of showing what life is like for this animal in its natural habitat. This activity represents a source of extra income for many breeders, but it has not yet been adequately promoted and publicized. This study analyzes the supply side of this type of tourism. For this purpose, a non-parametric statistical model has been used and results have been obtained which corroborate that the promotion of this type of tourism is scarce, and that the breeders began to offer this type of tourism to make known what life is like for the fighting bull in the countryside and to increase their income. Furthermore, in this study, it is fundamental to differentiate between bullfighting and bullfighting tourism so that this type of tourism can reach the greatest possible number of people and not be influenced by thoughts against bullfighting, as they are different activities. The treatment of myofascial pain in athletes requires a set of rehabilitation techniques that aim to be effective quickly. In this context, dry needling (DNY) has shown interesting results due to its ability to reduce pain in the short term. Thus, the aim of this study was to investigate the role of DNY in managing myofascial shoulder pain in overhead athletes. PubMed, Scopus and Web of Science were screened up to March 2024, to identify studies that met the following inclusion criteria: overhead athletes with shoulder pain with a DNY approach for myofascial trigger points (MTrPs), RCT, case–control study, feasibility study as the study design. Exclusion criteria were studies that did not include athletes, studies that did not focus on the treatment of MTrPs with DNY, other reviews, no full-text availability and papers written in a language other than English. Out of 399 articles, 165 were excluded as duplicates. Of the 234 articles screened, only 6 articles met the inclusion criteria. A total of 6 studies were included in the systematic review. Initial results showed that DNY improved pain rapidly and in the short term; however, there is still no consensus on the minimum number and the interval between treatments. Major findings reported a rapid potential decrease in perceived pain, shoulder disability and an increase in muscle strength; in this scenario, DNY might be a valid solution in a sports rehabilitation setting. Root rot disease poses a significant threat to canola (Brassica napus), underscoring the need for a comprehensive understanding of its causal agents for more effective disease mitigation. The composition and diversity of fungal pathogens associated with root rot of canola in Alberta, Canada, were evaluated from plant tissue samples collected in 2021 and 2022. The study revealed Fusarium spp. as the predominant pathogens found in almost all surveyed fields. Fusarium avenaceum, F. redolens, and F. solani were among the most frequently recovered species. Greenhouse trials confirmed their pathogenicity, with F. avenaceum and F. sporotrichioides found to be particularly aggressive. Additionally, F. sporotrichioides and F. commune were identified for the first time as canola root rot pathogens. Inoculation with isolates of most species resulted in significant reductions in seedling emergence, plant height, and shoot and root dry weights. Analysis of translation elongation factor 1-α (TEF-1α) and internal transcribed spacer (ITS) sequences confirmed the identity of the Fusarium spp., while concatenating the ITS and TEF-1α sequences enabled improved species differentiation. Geographic and year effects did not influence fungal diversity or aggressiveness, as determined by principal component analysis. Water is the basis for human survival and growth, and it holds great importance for ecological and environmental protection. The Hindu Kush Himalaya (HKH) is known as the “Water Tower of Asia”, where water influences changes in the global water cycle and ecosystem. It is thus very important to efficiently measure the status of water in this region and to monitor its changes; with the development of satellite-borne sensors, water surface extraction based on remote sensing images has become an important method through which to do so, and one of the most advanced and accurate methods for water surface extraction involves the use of deep learning networks. We designed a network based on the state-of-the-art Vision Transformer to automatically extract the water surface in the HKH region; however, in this region, terrain shadows are often misclassified as water surfaces during extraction due to their spectral similarity. Therefore, we adjusted the training dataset in different ways to improve the accuracy of water surface extraction and explored whether these methods help to reduce the interference of terrain shadows. Our experimental results show that, based on the designed network, adding terrain shadow samples can significantly enhance the accuracy of water surface extraction in high mountainous areas, such as the HKH region, while adding terrain data does not reduce the interference from terrain shadows. We obtained the water surface extraction results in the HKH region in 2021, with the network and training datasets containing both water surface and terrain shadows. By comparing these results with the data products of Global Surface Water, it was shown that our water surface extraction results are highly accurate and the extracted water surface boundaries are finer, which strongly confirmed the applicability and advantages of the proposed water surface extraction approach in a wide range of complex surface environments.
