Abstract

Percentage depth doses for 8 MV X-rays are only available for 100 cm SSD while the use of large fields frequently requires SSDs up to 140 cm. A table has been made of multiplying factors for SSD 110, 120, 130 and 140 cm percentage depth doses at depths varying from 5 to 25 cm. These factors are independent of field size and have been verified experimentally at 5 and 20 cm. The factors can easily be calculated by the radiotherapy technical staff with the formula F=1+a(d-dm) where a is a numerical parameter depending upon SSD.
