Abstract

Magnetic-susceptibility measurements have been used to locate the low-lying crystal-field levels of SrF2: Ce3+. Three of the four levels arising from the crystal-field-split F722 manifold were located by optical-absorption spectra. The fourth level is predicted. The experimental results placed the seven tetragonally split crystal-field levels at 0, 39, 1085, 2215, 2280, 2393, and 3380 cm1.
