Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering Aims and scope

Conclusions

1. Buildings with a large number of transverse walls, which operate as a flexible system, have the maximum degree of penetration of the foundation into the base and curvature of the socle and cases of lagging of the lower surface of the foundation behind the curved base are not recorded for them.

2. The coefficient η permits an objective evaluation of the behavior of the building during undermining.

3. By the rational use of the rigidities of individual elements figuring in the selected geometric scheme of the structure, it is possible to regulate the additional forces for the purpose of achieving an equal strength of the most stressed sections of the building.

4. To calculate the optimal scheme of a structure providing reversal to the actual design, it is necessary to take into account the static behavior of the underground and above-ground parts of the structure.
