Abstract

The relationship between formation, structure and tensile modulus of ultrahigh modulus polyethylene is explained on the basis of a structural model in which entanglements formed during the deformation process play an important rôle. The results of wide- and small-angle X-ray scattering are interpreted in terms of structural parameters derived from this model.
