Summary
The previously described “parallel twin capillary” modification ofBarger's method for the determination of molecular weight by isothermic microdistillation, has been superceded by the “opposed twin capillary” method described above.
By reducing the actual length of the vapor bridge to a practical minimum of from 6 to 8 mm., and employing suitable solvents, significant readings, ten to twenty times as large as heretofore possible, are obtained in 24 hours and final results within 48 hours. The method requires only 25 cbmm. of solution per trial, involving as little as 0,5 mg. of substance which can be recovered. The apparatus consisting of three capillaries is of utmost simplicity.
