Abstract
The occurrence of chitin has been demonstrated in heavily calcified Milleporidae (3 species) and Hexacorallia (4 species), but not in Octocorallia. Microfibrils, probably containing chitin, are arranged in a dispersed texture in these species and are embedded in a protein-containing matrix.
