Possible Formation of an Azulene-type Radical obtained on Heating 3,4-Benzpyrene

Abstract

IN an earlier communication1 we reported that 3,4-benzpyrene (I), an agent known to cause cancer and one of the components of tobacco smoke condensate, when heated to about 200° C gives rise to free radicals, which give well resolved electron spin resonance spectra. This communication describes further work on these free radicals.
