Summary
The o-Cl substituted formazans I und II where newly synthesized and their application to the spectrophotometric determination of palladium has been evaluated. Formazan I reacts only in dioxanwater medium at pH 3.5 resulting in a green 1∶2 Pd-complex, whereas formazan II forms a water-soluble complex with maximum absorption at pH 3 (λmax= 633 nm, ɛ623=11.5×1031 Mol−1 cm−1). This system obeys Beer's law from 0.02–11 μg Pd/ml.
