Summary
An artificial culture medium for breedingDaphnia for laboratory use is described. The average length of life for animals in the artificial medium is the same as for animals kept in pond-water. The constancy of chemical properties of the new medium, the absence of organic and unknown inorganic substances and the absence of micro-organisms is a great advantage in experimental work. The fodder-organisms can be cultured in the same medium (plus nitrates), e.g.Scenedesmus.
