Summary

The orientations of some joints were measured in Central Ethiopia. It is shown that these fit very well into the commonly assumed stress system causing the Rift Valley, if they are interpreted as shearing phenomena.

Zusammenfassung

Die Stellungen einer Reihe von Klüften wurden in Zentraläthiopien gemessen. Es wird gezeigt, daß diese sehr gut mit dem Spannungssystem zusammenpassen, welches gewöhnlich als Ursache des ostafrikanischen Grabensystems angenommen wird, falls sie als Scherphänomene interpretiert werden.
