Summary In the electrolysis of auric chloride solutions containing potassium chloride, hard pencil leads being used as anodes, correct values were obtained for quantities of gold ranging from 0,4 to 30γ, within the permissible limits of error. The time required for electrolysis with a current density of 20–25 milliampères per sq. cm. was not less than 20 minutes when carried out at the boiling-point; at the ordinary temperature, and when stirring was not employed, a minimum of 4 hours was necessary. For the quantitative determination, the gold is preferably precipitated upon sheets of assay lead, free from gold. The lead is then eliminated by the customary methods, and the residual bead of gold measured micrometrically.
