Notes: [Auszug] Although Dixon5 and Dickens and Greville2 have put forward a hypothesis to explain the underlying mechanism of the effect of potassium in terms of permeability, its nature is still obscure4, if somewhat clarified by the recent work of Lipsett and Crescitelli6. In the present communication we wish ...

Notes: [Auszug] A few millilitres of ethanol, containing a trace of methanol, in a test-tube is treated with carbon disulphide and potassium hydroxide as above and is shaken for twenty seconds. After evaporation of the liquid layer, the residue of potassium xanthogenate is developed as above. In this case two ...

Notes: [Auszug] We have now studied the hydrolysis and metabolism by KT 83 and KT 84 of benzoyl derivatives of D- and L-isomers of six amino-acids, phenyl-alanine, tyrosine, alanine, aminobutyric acid, p-methoxyphenylalanine and] 3,4-methylendioxyphenylalanine. At the outset we confirmed that KT 84 grew ...

Notes: [Auszug] The apparatus for delivery of a current of constant voltage from 100 V. to 1,000 V. is made by modification of that used by Heigl et al. as the constant-voltage generator for the photomultiplier of their Raman-spectrura apparatus2. In principle, the apparatus for determining migration distance is ...

Notes: Summary From these considerations the superiority of this new reagent can easily be concluded as follows: a) Simplicity and speediness of operation in oxidizing action; b) accuracy in result and reliability in reproducibility, as it is possible to determine such a minute quantities as 1 p. p. m. of manganese or 1 mg of cerium, not possible by any other method; c) non-interference of other metals, and especially in case of cerium the possibility of the determination in the presence of other neighbouring metals similar to the case of methods used hitherto; d) easy preparation and sufficient oxidizing power not reduced by long standing and availability for routine work. The difficulties encountered in the use of sodium bismuthate and ammonium persulfate, widely used in routine work, are completely avoided in this new method and the new reagent.

Notes: Summary The addition of hydroxylamine, proposed by the authors, has entirely removed all defects in the determination of copper with sodium diethyldithiocarbamate, pointed out by previous workers. Its use has given satisfactory results superior to other methods in the following respects: a) speedy and complete extraction of copper diethyldithiocarbamate complex with carbon tetrachloride, and b) no ill effect on the stability of coloration, the effective period of the reagent being also remarkably increased, c) increase of accuracy in color comparison by complete extraction of the colored matter so that it conforms withLambert-Beer's law.
