Description / Table of Contents: Arsenic hyperaccumulator Pteris Vittata L. and its arsenic accumulation -- Arsenic hyperaccumulation mechanisms: absorption, transportation and detoxification -- Establishment of phytoremediation technology for arsenic contaminated sites -- Application of phytoremediation technology to typical mining sites in China -- Enhancement of arsenic removal in phytoremediation of arsenic contaminated soils.
Abstract: This book introduces readers to the main theories of phytoremediation and its application to arsenic-contaminated soils in China. The hyperaccumulation theories are introduced, including the use of hyperaccumulators to remove large amounts of arsenic without producing toxic symptoms. The use of synchrotron-based X-ray absorption fine structure radiation to disclose the hyperaccumulation mechanism – a method that makes it possible to detect the elements in plant tissues without destroying the sample – is introduced in detail. This book also includes practical application cases of phytoremediation, which are rarely found in the literature. Allowing readers to gain a thorough understanding of phytoremediation technology, and demonstrating its efficiency in cleaning arsenic-contaminated soils, the book offers a valuable asset for graduate students, lecturers, researchers and engineers in the field of soil remediation. .

Description / Table of Contents: Foreword -- Preface -- Moving Toward Net zero Emission Society in the Asia Pacific: With Special Reference to the Recent Law and Policy Development in Japan, Korea and Taiwan -- Assessing the Impact of Carbon Prices and Timber Fluctuation on the Expansion of Afforestation: A Case of Taiwan -- Turning on the Lights with Green Energy- A more Sustainable Future- The Case of Taiwan ICDF Project: Solar PV Mini Grid System for Lightning in Myanmar -- The Importance of Capability Development for Innovation Intermediaries in Sustainable Agricultural: Cases of Rice and Mango Industry Organizations in the Philippines -- The Kelp Industry an its Effectiveness in Blue Carbon: A Case of Hakodate, Japan -- The Climate Impacts of Black Carbon and Methane Emissions in Arctic and Current Frameworks for Prevention.
Abstract: This open access book explores various issues concerning the net-zero emission achievement, ranging from carbon pricing, carbon trade schemes, energy transition, ecological conservation, and carbon sinks, as well as the economic and social impacts of introducing carbon neutral policies in the Asia-Pacific region. The extreme flooding and drought problems, crop yield problems, and habitat changes brought about by climate change have seriously threatened the ecosystem and human survival, forcing people to rethink environmental management policies and limits on economic development. In the post-COVID-10 era, it is indispensable to adopt a more proactive climate change adaptation policy and establish bilateral cooperation with international partners who value climate change. 2021 is a critical year, and the leaders of major industrial countries at the recently concluded G7 meeting jointly stated the common objective seeking the establishment of carbon-neutral international community by the mid of the century. Major carbon-emitting countries or entities such as the European Union, US, Japan, Korea, China, and India have proposed specific timetables for net-zero carbon emissions and carbon neutrality before or at the COP26. Policy-makers around the world would also work closely with scientists, experts, and enterprises seeking appropriate policy instruments such as the development of carbon tax, carbon pricing, carbon sinks, global or regional carbon emission trade schemes, energy transitions, and other carbon-neutral policies moving toward net-zero emission society by the mid of the century. At a time when carbon pricing policies are being formulated, climate change related laws and policies will reshape the global governance and industrial layout during the period of 2021–-2030, and it is critical to move toward energy and industrial transformation, ecological conservation, and sustainable agricultural development.

    Description / Table of Contents: Chapter 1.Historical Perspectives -- Chapter 2.Theoretical Background -- Chapter 3.Modes of Chromatographic Separation -- Chapter 4.Chromatographic Matrices -- Chapter 5.Ligand Design -- Chapter 6.Retention Mechanisms -- Chapter 7.Stationary Phases -- Chapter 8.Mobile Phases and Elution -- Chapter 9.Method Development -- Chapter 10.Applications in Biopharmaceutical Processing. .
Abstract: The book is about the technology and application of Mixed-mode chromatography (MMC). Unlike conventional single-mode HPLC, which resolves the analytes primarily based on their ionic or hydrophobic properties, MMC employs multifunctional stationary phases to exploit at least two modes of interactions (i.e., ionic and hydrophobic) with the analytes and as such often provides resolution that far exceeds that observed with a single-mode process. Over the past two decades, MMC has developed into an important analytical and purification tool in a number of applications in pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. The technique has been used widely for the analyses of nucleic acids, amino acids, peptides, proteins, glycoproteins, carbohydrates, antibiotics, vaccines, and other products. The purpose of this book is to present a comprehensive survey of mixed-mode chromatography and is intended as a reference guide for graduate students and experienced scientists in pharmaceutical and biotechnology disciplines wishing to gain a deep understanding of this continuously evolving technology. .

Description / Table of Contents: Introduction -- Mechanisms and processes of petroleum migration -- Carrier systems and their characterization -- Efficiencies of migration and accumulation and resources assessing -- Case study: dynamic study on petroleum migration and accumulation in the Dongying Depression, Bohaiba Basin.
Abstract: This book presents the authors' research findings on the dynamics of oil migration, research methodologies, insights and applications in petroliferous basins. It studies the behaviors of oil migration in porous media through physical experiments and numerical simulations, explores the mechanism of oil migration and effects of migration process, and then establishes a migration modeling method by coupling the source, driving forces and carriers. The new method can be used to estimate the amount of migrated hydrocarbons and then predict the location of possible hydrocarbon accumulations in different parts of a basin. This approach is useful for resources assessment and prediction of the distribution of hydrocarbon accumulations. An example utilizing this methodology is presented to study the dynamics of migration and accumulation processes in the southern slope of Dongying Depression in Bohai Bay Basin in China. The book appeals to scientists and professionals working on petroleum prospecting as well as faculty and students in petroleum geology.
