    Notes: Abstract Rabbit antisera and monoclonal antibodies were raised against factor C, a regulatory protein of Streptomyces griseus. ELISA and immunoblotting techniques suitable to determine and characterize factor C antigen in bacterial specimens were developed. Factor C antigen was detected in all the 23 Streptomyces strains and variants examined thus far and in one Bacillus subtilis too. Depending on the strain analysed it has a molecular mass of 34 000 or 70 000 in mycelial homogenates. Most of factor C was found excreted into the cultivation medium. The quantity of factor C antigen in different Streptomyces strains showed great variation. Amy + strains were usually good producers of factor C while Amy − were not. This was consistent with our assumption that factor C was an inducer of reproductive phase in Streptomyces.

    Notes: Abstract The new crystallization of β-modification of polypropylene (β-PP) was studied after melring as a function of the final temperature of fusion (T F ). The new crystallization, thermal characteristics, polymorphic composition, and structure of recrystallized samples were highly influenced by theT F level. As a function ofT F , three characteristic regions were outlined: Region I below the melting point of β-modification, region II between the melting points of β- and α-modifications, and region III above the melting point of α-modification. In the vicinity of the melting points of both modifications, two narrow transition regions are observed where the crystallization and structural characteristics changed abruptly withT F . AtT F values in region I, recrystallization of β-modification proceeded without any change in the modification. IfT F fell in region II, the sample crystallized newly into α-modification. The optically negative β-ring-spherulites were replaced by positive microclusters of α-modification and a marked structural memory effect was observed. In region III, the above characteristic became invariant withT F (region of blank melt). These observations may be interpreted by the role of self nuclei.

    Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Zur Beschreibung von Peaks bzw. Stufen thermoanalytischer Kurven wurden emperische Parameter ermittelt, die bei der Untersuchung der Reproduziertbarkeit, der Beziehung zwischen kinetischen Konstanten und Peakform so wie des Einflusses des thermischen Wiederstandes der Probe angewendet wurden. Kinetische Konstanten können auf der Basis von Peakformparametern geschÄtzt werden. Weiterhin wurden Kriterien für Experimente ermittelt, die eine kinetische NÄherungslösung unter VernachlÄssigung des WÄrmetransportes innerhalb der Probe ermöglichen. Die empirischen Parameter wurden au\erdem bei der Untersuchung der Eignung von DSC-daten zur Reinheitsanalyse angewendet, weiterhin zum Nachweis von alterungsbedingten Änderungen der thermischen Zerzetzung von Papier.
    Notes: Abstract Empirical parameters were chosen for the characterization of peaks (or steps) of thermoanalytical curves. The parameters were applied in studies on the repeatability, the relationship between kinetic constants and peak shape, the effect of sample thermal resistance. Kinetic constants can be estimated on the basis of peak shape parameters. Besides, approximate criteria were formulated for experiments allowing kinetic evaluation with the neglect of the heat transport within the sample. The empirical parameters were also used in checking the suitability of DSC data for purity analysis and in detecting changes of the thermal decomposition of papers caused by ageing.

    Notes: Abstract The characteristics of crystallization, melting and spherulitic growth of a random propylene copolymer (PRC) containing small amount of ethylene were studied in the presence of a selective Β-nucleating agent (calcium pimelate). It was established that the products of isothermal and non-isothermal crystallization are very rich in Β-modification but have mixed polymorphic composition. The formation of α-modification may be attributed to Βα-transition on the surface of growing Β-spherulites resulting in αΒ-twin-spherulites. During melting of PRC of Β-modification, the characteristics observed with Β-nucleated propylene homopolymers, namely, a Βα-recrystallization of recooled samples and separated melting of non-recooled samples (i.e. the melting memory effect), as well as a ΒΒ-recrystallization leading to a perfection of the structure within the Β-modification, are also demonstrated. The disturbance of regularity of the polymer chain highly reduces the tendency to Β-crystallization. In contrast to the observations with propylene homopolymers, the growth rate of α-modification (G α) is higher than that of Β-modification (G β) and no critical crossover temperature can be found (T(Βα)=413 K) below whichG α〉G β. The experimental results show that a partial disturbance of chain regularity by incorporation of comonomer units considerably reduces the tendency to Β-crystallization.

    Notes: Abstract An EGA method measuring the vapours and gases containing organic carbon was applied to study paper ageing. In a DuPont 916 Thermal Evolution Analyzer the original and aged paper samples were heated in a temperature programmed furnace, and the evolving volatiles are swept by an inert gas into a hydrogen flame ionization detector. The low temperature section of the EGA curves (before the main decomposition step) is sensitive to the slight changes caused by ageing. In the case of naturally aged papers (stored at room temperature), the older the samples of the same quality were, the more intensive was the evolution of organic substances at temperatures below 250
