Abstract The paleographic pattern of the Upper (“White”) Jurassic of the Suebian Alb mountain area is characterized by intersecting of algal-sponge-reef and micritic limestone-marl facies. Under certain conditions the submarine topography of the reef complexes is reproduced in the landscape today, mainly because the different limestone types are yielding in different ways towards weathering, denudation and erosion.
