Sedimentary aliphatic hydrocarbons content have been studied quantitatively and qualitatively using GC/MS method in eight coastal stations located in the Jakarta Bay, North of Jakarta, Indonesia. The total concentrations n-alkanes have ranged from 480 μg.kg -1 to 1,935 μg.kg -1 sediment dry weight. Several ratios (e.g. CPI 24-32 , NAR, TAR, Pr/Phy, n -C 17 /Pr, n- C 18 /Phyt, n -C 29 / n -C 17 , Ʃ n -alkanes/ n -C 16 LMW/HMW, Paq and TMD) were used to evaluate the possible sources of terrestrial-marine inputs of these hydrocarbons in the sediments. The various origins of aliphatic hydrocarbons were generally biogenic, including both terrigenous and marine, with an anthropogenic pyrolytic contribution (petrogenic and biogenic combustion).
