Description: Enhancing stall and surge margin has a great importance for the development of turbo compressors. The application of casing treatment is an effective measure to expand the stall margin and stable operation range. Numerical investigations were conducted to predict the performance of a low flow rate centrifugal compressor with circumferential groove casing treatment in vane diffuser. Numerical cases with different radial location, radial width and axial depth of a circumferential single groove and different numbers of circumferential grooves were carried out to compare the results. The CFD analyses results show that the centrifugal compressor with circumferential grooves in diffuser can extend stable range by about 9% while the efficiency over the whole operating range decreases by 0.2 to 1.7%. The evaluation based on stall margin improvement showed the optimal position for the groove to be located was indicated to exist near the leading edge of the diffuser, and a combination of p...

Description: In the context of global climate change, human activities dramatically damage the consistency of hydrological time series. Peak Over Threshold (POT) series have become an alternative to the traditional Annual Maximum series, but it is still underutilized due to its complexity. Most literature about POT tended to employ only one threshold regardless of the non-stationarity of the whole series. Obviously, it is unwise to ignore the fact that our hydrological time series may no longer be a stationary stochastic process. Hence, in this paper, we take the daily runoff time series of the Yichang gauge station on the Yangtze River in China as an example, and try to shed light on the selection of the threshold provided non- stationarity of our time series. The Mann-Kendall test is applied to detect the change points; then, we gave different thresholds according to the change points to the sub-series. Comparing the goodness-of-fit of the series with one and several thresholds, it clearly...

Description: In this investigation, an A356/10%100μm SiCp upward suction casting with a cylinder cavity of 40 mm diameter and 400 mm height was conducted with stirring technique. The SiCp contents in the casting different sections were quantitatively measured with micro digital image analysis system, and then were compared and analyzed. To simulate the casting mold filling, the composite mixture was simulated based on the Euler method while the particulate flow was calculated with the Lagrangian method for predicting the SiCp distribution. The flow of the mixture and particulate phases was analyzed and discussed. The simulated particulate distribution was compared and validated with the experimental results. Both results have shown that the particulate contents decreased along the upward mold filling direction, and that the particulates were prone to be trapped near the mold wall at the filling beginning part due to local lower temperature and higher viscosity and they distributed towards th...

Description: According to radiation transfer equation (RTE), it is an ill-conditioned problem to obtain land surface temperature (LST) accurately from the HJ-1B thermal infrared channel. Several algorithms have been proposed to resolve this problem. However, some accurate inputs (e.g. atmospheric parameters and land surface emissivity) always inaccessible to common users are indispensable to their applications. An innovative approach (named MTSC method) based on multi-temporal data was described in this paper, by means of which the LSTs are able to be estimated readily and directly from the radiometrically corrected thermal images, even without any other accurate information. To demonstrate its capability, four HJ-1B images (acquired on Nov 28, Dec 10, Dec 18 and Dec 22, 2011, respectively) mainly covering the Pearl River Delta region were selected for LSTs estimation. The LSTs retrieved by the MTSC method were then compared with the near time MODIS surface temperature products, and the samp...

Description: An Al-20Mg-4Si high Mg containing alloy has been produced and its characteristics investigated. The as-cast alloy revealed primary Mg 2 Si particles evenly distributed throughout an α-Al matrix with a β-Al 3 Mg 2 fully divorced eutectic phase observed in interdendritic regions. The Mg 2 Si particles displayed octahedral, truncated octahedral, and hopper morphologies. Additions of Sb, Ti and Zr had a refining influence reducing the size of the Mg 2 Si from 52 ± 4 μm to 25 ± 0.1 μm, 35 ± 1 μm and 34 ± 1 μm respectively. HPDC tensile test samples could be produced with a 0.6 wt.% Mn addition which prevented die soldering. Solution heating for 1 hr was found to dissolve the majority of the Al 3 Mg 2 eutectic phase with no evidence of any effect on the primary Mg 2 Si. Preliminary results indicate that the heat treatment has a beneficial effect on the elongation and the UTS.

Description: In recent years, some studies have been carried out on the landscape analysis of urban thermal patterns. With the prevalence of thermal landscape, a key problem has come forth, which is how to classify thermal landscape into thermal patches. Current researches used different methods of thermal landscape classification such as standard deviation method (SD) and R method. To find out the differences, a comparative study was carried out in Xiamen using a 20-year winter time-serial Landsat images. After the retrieval of land surface temperature (LST), the thermal landscape was classified using the two methods separately. Then landscape metrics, 6 at class level and 14 at landscape level, were calculated and analyzed using Fragstats 3.3. We found that: (1) at the class level, all the metrics with SD method were evened and did not show an obvious trend along with the process of urbanization, while the R method could. (2) While at the landscape level, 6 of the 14 metrics remains the si...

Description: Since the clearance between the runner shroud and the hub can change with the angle of the blades, it has a great influence on the hydraulic characteristics and cavitation performance in the Kaplan Turbine. In this paper, the CFD will be used to solve the turbulence model based on the k-ωSST model in the entire flow field of the turbine and the Zwart-Gerber-Belamri model will be used to predict the cavitation. We compare the hydraulic characteristics and cavitation performance of the Kaplan Turbine under the conditions of the runner clearance exist or the runner clearance absence. Finally, we analysis the influence of the clearance width in the hydraulic performance and the relationship between the clearances and the turbine characteristics.

Description: Aerodynamic design is a must and fundamental aspect for better performance of an aircraft. This work describes a framework for aerodynamic shape optimisation (ASO) based on high-fidelity Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analyses and an open source optimisation toolkit DAKOTA. The free form deformation (FFD) technique is adopted for parameterization of geometries, followed by a transfinite interpolation (TFI) method for grid deformation. CFD simulations are performed by full Navier-Stokes equations in conjunction with turbulence model. CFD, FFD and TFI modules are integrated with DAKOTA by a black-box interface, a pre-processing and a post-processing. The transonic RAE2822 airfoil is employed for demonstration of the effectiveness and capability of the developed framework. Several cases with different optimisation algorithms, design variables and turbulence models are performed. Optimum solutions with significant improvement of lift-drag ratio are presented to demonstrate the c...

Description: In this paper, a high speed reconfigurable control bits generation algorithm for cyclic shift operations is proposed. The algorithm utilizes the characteristics of routing information when Inverse Butterfly multi level network supports cyclic shift. Moreover, it also integrates a kind of cyclic shift operations together, including cyclic shift and sub-word cyclic shift based on a bit width of 2 i (i = 1, 2, …). Based on this, the shifter is implemented, and the logic synthesis is realized in the SMIC 65nm process. The results show that when the proposed unit only supports cyclic shift operations, enhances the frequency by 3.6% ∼ 8.6% and reduces the area by1.4% ∼ 32%, compared with previously proposed solutions. When achieving a variety of cyclic shift operations, the frequency of our unit enhances the frequency by 5% and reduces the area by 6%.

Description: The comprehensive utilization of tailings mud has become a common concern of the society. The properties of tailings mud produced from Huzhou city were analyzed in this work. Moreover, porous ceramics with high strength were prepared by using the tailings mud as main raw material and adding a small amount of foaming agent. The results show that the foaming agent contents have a certain effect on the porosity and compressive strength of the porous ceramic samples. These results provided a certain theoretical basis for the comprehensive utilization of tailings mud and solve the pollution of tailings mud to the environment.
