Notes: The perturbation-allowed torsional spectrum of gaseous CH3CH3 has been measured between 225 and 340 cm−1 at a resolution of 0.015 cm−1 using a Fourier transform spectrometer. The absorption path length was 124 m; the gas temperature and pressure were 295 K and 107 Torr, respectively. The P, Q, and R branches have been observed for all four torsional sublevels in the bands v4=1←0 and 2←1. A torsion–rotation Hamiltonian containing seven parameters was used to analyze 204 frequencies assigned in the P and R branches of the two bands. Effective values were obtained for the reduced rotational constant AR, the two leading coefficients V3 and V6 in the Fourier expansion of the hindering potential, the B rotational constant, and three distortion parameters. Estimates for the three zeroth order torsional parameters free of higher order contributions are: AR =2.6711(50) cm−1, V3=1012.0(1.0) cm−1, and V6=10.71(0.60) cm−1. The torsional energies calculated from the current model are compared to those obtained by earlier experiments.

Notes: Each magic basis of Lie g supports a generalized graph theory on Lie g, whose axioms include the graphs of order n as a special case on SO(n). Other examples include the sine-area graphs of SU(n) and the sine(⊕area) graphs of SU(Πini). The set of all (magic basis–generalized graph theory) pairs is not known, but each possible pair corresponds to a large set of new conformal field theories.

Notes: A system for grabbing integrated video frames produced by a remote camera is described. As part of the pointed platform in a balloon-borne experiment, we use a video charge-coupled-device camera to obtain wide field star images. To obtain images with a sufficient signal-to-noise ratio, integration times of up to 1 s are required. In applications where the frame grabber and camera are physically close to each other, timing the frame grabber trigger is straightforward; however, there are several advantages to locating the frame grabber not on the balloon payload. As a result commands issued simultaneously to the frame grabber on the ground and the camera on the balloon can be delayed relative to each other, resulting in failure to acquire an image. We have developed a system where, at the end of an integration, a tone is injected into the video field preceding the transmission of the integrated frame; the tone is used on the ground by a decoder circuit to control the frame grabber acquisition of the integrated frame. The system has operated successfully in the flight of a stratospheric balloon-borne telescope. © 1996 American Institute of Physics.

Notes: A preamplifier has been built for use within a cryogenic system operating at a temperature of 2 K. The input stage is a 2N6483 JFET operating near 100 K. The equivalent input noise is less than 8 nV/Hz1/2 at a frequency of 10 Hz.

Notes: A detailed description is given of a liquid-helium-cooled. Fourier transform spectrometer recently flown on a rocket. The instrument was used to make new precise measurements of the spectrum of the cosmic background radiation in the wave number range 2–30 cm−1, as reported by H. P. Gush, M. Halpern, and E. Wishnow [Phys. Rev. Lett. 65, 537 (1990)].

Notes: Irrational conformal field theory (ICFT) includes rational conformal field theory as a small subspace, and the affine-Virasoro Ward identities describe the biconformal correlators of ICFT. The Ward identities are reformulated as an equivalent linear partial differential system with flat connections and new nonlocal conserved quantities. As examples of the formulation, the system of flat connections is solved for the coset correlators, the correlators of the affine-Sugawara nests, and the high-level n-point correlators of ICFT. © 1995 American Institute of Physics.

Notes: For each magic basis of Lie g, it is known that the Virasoro master equation on affine g contains a generalized graph theory of conformal level-families. In this paper, it is found that the superconformal master equation on affine g×SO(dim g) similarly contains a generalized graph theory of superconformal level-families for each magic basis of g. The superconformal level-families satisfy linear equations on the generalized graphs, and the first exact unitary irrational solutions of the superconformal master equation are obtained on the sine-area graphs of g=SU(n), including the simplest unitary irrational central charges c=6nx/(nx+8 sin2(rsπ/n)) yet observed in the program.
