Description / Table of Contents: Introduction -- Necessity of the research -- General situation of the Yangtze River Basin -- Characteristic and Variation Analysis of Water and Sediment in Yangtze River Basin -- Feasibility Study of Flood Resources Utilization in Yangtze River Basin -- Feasibility Study on Flood Resources Utilization of the Three Gorges Project -- Study on flood resources utilization and risk countermeasures in the Yangtze River Basin -- Study on the Floating of the Operating Water Level of the Three Gorges Project in Flood Season -- Study on Small Flood Dispatching Mode in the Three Gorges Project -- Study on early impoundment at the end of flood season for the Three Gorges Project -- Study on the Risk Measures of Flood Resources Utilization in the three Gorges Project -- Conclusions and Suggestions.
Abstract: This book is highly informative and carefully presented, providing scientific insights into the flood resources utilization in the Yangtze River Basin both for scholars and decision-makers. The book is for the purpose of analyzing the potential utilization of flood resources in the Yangtze River Basin and exploring effective ways to put forward the countermeasures against the risks. Major objectives of this book include: (1) revealing the characteristics of the inflow and the sediment variation in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, quantitatively evaluating the potential utilization of the flood resources in the Yangtze River and demonstrating the feasibility of its utilization in the Basin; (2) proposing the necessity and feasibility of utilizing the flood resources by the Three Gorges Project; (3) shedding new light on the characteristics of the flood resources, presenting different methods of flood resources utilization in different regions over the Basin and raising the overall risk-optimized strategies of the flood resources utilization in the Yangtze River; (4) analyzing the risk of flood resources utilization for the Three Gorges Project regarding flood control, sediment, ecology, etc., and putting forward the risk-optimized countermeasures of flood resources utilization for the Three Gorges Project.

Description / Table of Contents: Introduction -- Unpacking the geography of industrial upgrading -- The interaction between strategic coupling and industrial upgrading: a framework -- Industrial upgrading and evolutionary strategic coupling in the Pearl River Delta -- Captive coupling in the electronics industry: relocation, localization and local upgrading -- Local upgrading in the apparel industry: from captive coupling to cooperative coupling -- Reciprocal coupling and industrial upgrading in the automotive industry: the balance of interplay -- The Geographies of Industrial Upgrading.
Abstract: This book examines industrial upgrading in China’s Pearl River Delta (PRD), with a specific focus on how strategic coupling impacts industrial upgrading from the perspective of relational economic geography. It shows that firms in the PRD have been struggling after serving as low-tier suppliers and subcontractors for transnational corporations for two decades, since the 1980s opening reform in China. Indigenous innovation and direct state support have fostered the success of a few firms, but not the majority. In response, many local firms are now taking advantage of the opportunities to be found in global production networks, which link the PRD with the global economy. This book elaborates on how these opportunities are embedded and identified in global production networks with regard to different types of strategic coupling. It not only renews the theory of strategic coupling in economic geography, but also demonstrates potential strategies that latecomer firms can pursue, and which can have major implications for many developing countries and regions. .

Description / Table of Contents: 1 Introduction -- 2 Palaeogeographical settings of South China in the Changhsingian to Induan and palaeogeographic distribution of the studied Permian Triassic Boundary sections -- 3 Description of the studied Permian Triassic Boundary sections of South China -- 4 Age analysis and correlation -- 5 Temporal and spatial processes and dynamics of the Permian Triassic Boundary mass extinction (PTBME) in South China.
Abstract: This book timely provides high-quality records of 32 PTB sections across different depositional settings from terrestrial to marine facies in South China, including descriptions of lithologies, high-resolution correlation of key boundaries and fossil occurrences at each section. This book also analyzes the patterns and processes of the community and ecosystem evolution over space and through time in the lead to the end-Permian mass extinction, and critically analyzes the mostly debated hypothesis, anoxia and volcanism, which were considered as the causes of mass extinction, based on the data from the studied sections of South China, together with materials from other regions of the world.
