    Climate associated variations in the human serum albumin level (1975)

    Notes: Summary Quantitative determinations of the human serum albumin level showed significantly higher values in tropical (Negroes 46.98 mg/ml, Indians 54.30 mg/ml) than in nontropical populations (Germans 44.41 mg/ml). These observations are in agreement with those of several other authors. It is assumed that these variations in the serum albumin level are related to climate, and that they may indicate some biological advantage of higher albumin levels under the climatic conditions of tropical biotops. This hypothesis is discussed considering several aspects.

    Description / Table of Contents: Abstract The ternary bodides HfCo3B2 and ZrCo3B2 crystallize with the hexagonal D 2d structure type, space group P 6/mmm,a=4.840,c=3.036Å,c/a=0.627 anda=4.863,c=3.043Å,c/a=0.625, respectively. The boron atoms are located inside a trigonal prism that is familiar from other metal-rich borides. The ternary CaCu5 type has good space filling at a theoretical axial ratioc/a=0.75 and a theoretical radius ratio of 1.5 ∶ 1 ∶ 0.81.
    Notes: Zusammenfassung Die ternären Boride HfCo3B2 und ZrCo3B2 kristallisieren im hexagonalen D 2d-(CaCu5)-Strukturtyp, Raumgruppe P 6/mmm,a=4,840,c=3,036Å,c/a=0,627 bzw.a=4,863,c=3,043Å,c/a=0,625. Die Boratome liegen in einem trigonalen Prisma, das von anderen metallreichen Boriden her bekannt ist. Der ternäre CaCu5-Typ zeigt eine hohe Raumerfüllung bei einem theoret. Achsenverhältnisc/a=0,75 und einem theoret. Radienverhältnis 1,5 ∶ 1 ∶ 0,81.

    Notes: Abstract In an arbitrary Minkowski space M, n≥2, let there be given an arbitrary finite set P of weighted points whose affine hull is n-dimensional. We show that the unit ball B of M has smooth boundary if and only if each median hyperplane (minimizing the sum of weighted distances with respect to P) is spanned by n affinely independent points from P. Moreover, B has the same property if and only if every center hyperplane (minimizing the maximal weighted distance with respect to P) has the same maximal distance to at least n+1 affinely independent points from P.

    Notes: Abstract In this paper we consider the problem of optimizing a piecewise-linear objective function over a non-convex domain. In particular we do not allow the solution to lie in the interior of a prespecified region R. We discuss the geometrical properties of this problems and present algorithms based on combinatorial arguments.     Notes: Abstract.  The structure elucidation of some intermediates of the transformation of dinitrotoluene and toluylenediamine isomers is described. Methylnitroanilines, quinoxalines, benzimidazoles and cresols were identified using GC/MS, LC/MS and LC and UV detection. The separation of compounds from the aqueous phase was carried out by solid phase extraction with various column packings. The origin of the purification plant residue coloring is clarified and the related sources and possible pathways of formation of some compounds are given. Finally the results of biodegradation and ecotoxicological experiments [1] are discussed.

    Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung. Einfache Formeln für Unternehmensanleihen mit und ohne Kupon werden auf der Basis des Bewertungsansatzes von Longstaff und Schwartz (1995) entwickelt. Das Konkursereignis wird mit Hilfe einer speziellen Zustandsvariablen überwacht: Dem Verhältnis von Unternehmensvermögen zu -verbindlichkeiten. Es wird gezeigt, daß geschlossene Lösungen existieren, wenn nicht die Höhe der Unternehmensverbindlichkeiten sondern der erwartete Verschuldungsgrad unter dem äquivalenten Risikomaßkonstant über die Zeit bleibt. Dies erm öglicht eine etwas konservativere Betrachtungsweise der Verschuldungspolitik einer Unternehmung, die immer dann berechtigt erscheint, wenn die Unternehmung nicht bereit oder in der Lage ist, den erwarteten Verschuldungsgrad über die Zeit deutlich zu reduzieren.
    Notes: Abstract. Simple formulas for the prices of corporate discount and coupon bonds are found using the Longstaff and Schwartz (1995) valuation approach for the debt claims of a firm, where default is triggered by a special state variable: the firm's asset-to-debt-ratio. Instead of keeping the total amount of debt constant over time, it is shown that closed form solutions exist under the alternative assumption that the level of leverage is expected to remain constant over time under the risk-neutralized measure. This encourages a more conservative view on the capital structure policy of the firm which might be appropriate in case the firm is neither willing nor able to reduce its expected level of leverage considerably over time.

    Description / Table of Contents: Mechanical Properties of Hastelloy alloy C-22Hastelloy alloy C-22 is an advanced alloy of the Hastelloy alloy C-series with outstanding corrosion resistance. The alloy is used in the construction of pressure vessels which are used in the temperature range of -196°C to 400°C. For this application, mechanical properties and fabrication data were documented. The testing program included as mill annealed material as well as material in conditions typically experienced during vessel fabrication. The mechanical behavior of alloy C-22 was found to be comparable to the other C-type alloys. The alloy possesses high toughness at low temperatures even in a cold worked condition and it has good weldability.
    Notes: Hastelloy alloy C-22 ist eine weiterentwickelte Legierung im Rahmen der Hastelloy-alloy-C-Reihe mit hervorragender Korrosionsbeständigkeit. Die Legierung wird für den Bau von Druckbehältern verwendet, die im Temperaturbereich zwischen -196°C und 400°C eingesetzt werden. Im Hinblick auf diese Anwendung sind mechanische Eigenschaften und Verarbeitungsdaten bestimmt worden. Das Prüfprogramm erstreckte sich sowohl auf den lösungsgeglühten Ausgangszustand als auch typische Werkstoffzustände, wie sie beim Behälterbau vorliegen.Hastelloy alloy C-22 ist in seinem mechanischen Verhalten den anderen Legierungen des C-Typs vergleichbar. Der Werkstoff besitzt eine hohe Zähigkeit bei niedrigen Temperaturen, selbst im kaltumformten Zustand. Er ist gut schweißbar.
