Notes:
Summary The contents of all individual chlorobiphenyls in two technical PCB mixtures (Clophen A 30 and Clophen A 60) were investigated by capillary gas chromatography. These two commercial products contain virtually all polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB) occurring in environmental samples. The introduction of the samples was carried out by a direct injection without discrimination. In spite of the use of capillaries of high separation efficiency overlaps of some components could not be avoided. These fractions were passed over with the aid of a column switching to a second capillary column of a different polarity, on which they were separated. For detection an FID was used, which shows practically the same response for chlorinated biphenyls with the same number of chlorine atoms, however, not for different chlorination degrees. For correction of the different FID response calibration factors were determined by means of a solution of individual PCB's with 1 to 10 chlorine atoms.
