Notes: Reactions of Aromatic Nitriles with Diacyl DichloridesDicarbonic acid dichlorides react with aromatic nitriles in the presence of SbCl5 to give dicationic bis(1,3,5-oxadiazinium) salts 1. Reaction of 1 with ammonia or hydrazine yields derivatives of bis(1,3,5-triazine) (2) or bis(1,2,4-triazole) (3).

Notes: Abstract This paper examines the contributions given in theSource Book in Astronomy and Astrophysics 1900–1975 with respect to the question: how old were the authors at the time of their greatest achievements? As average value of the age of the authors at the time of the publication we find A=39.8±10.9 years and a little difference for more empirical and the theoretical papers.

Description / Table of Contents: The 1H-NMR and 13C-NMR spectra of some acrylic acid esters of polyvalent alcohols have been measured and interpreted. Using the 1H-NMR spectrum and the water content estimated after Karl Fischer, a method for the quantitative determination of acrylic acid esters of etherglycols is suggested and demonstrated in detail on diethyleneglycol acrylic ester.

Description / Table of Contents: Chalcogenide Glasses with Organic Components. V. The Reactivity in the Glass-forming Systems Selenium, Arsenic, Bromine, 4,4′-Bis(selenenylbromido)azobenzene and Selenium, Arsenic, Iodine, 4,4′-Bis(diiodarsa)biphenyleneSe—As—Br glasses and 4,4′-bis(selenenylbromido)azobenzene react in the solid state. In this case arsenic is an acceptor for bromine, and azobenzene groups will be linked via poly-selenide groups with the glass matrix. The reaction is proved by DTA. At elevated temperatures, the selenium-carbon bond will be replaced by a carbon-bromine link yielding 4,4′-dibromazobenzene. Solid 4,4′-bis(diiodarsa)biphenylene shows a similar reaction with Se—As—I above TG. The pyrolysis takes place at higher temperatures.

Description / Table of Contents: Chalcogenide Glasses with Organic Components. III. Poly-4,4′-diarsabiphenylene and Glasses of the Composition Se100-3xAs2xBx (B = Biphenylene)The Poly-4,4′-diarsabiphenyle is prepared and described for the first time. It is synthesized easely by reduction of biphenylene-4,4′-diarsonic acid with hypophosphoric acid. Analytical and i.r. spectroscopic results suggest a disordered structure. Poly-4,4′-diarsabiphenyle reacts with elemental Selenium giving the glasses Se100-3x(BAs2)x. The reaction takes place in the solid state. The glasses shows transformation temperatures increasing slightly with 4,4′-diarsabiphenyle content. A modell of the structure of these glasses is proposed.

Description / Table of Contents: P- and m-Phenylenediamine-N,N,N′,N′-tetraetic acid have been prepared. The acidity constants have been measured in aqueous solution at 25.0°C and constant ionic strength μ = 0.1 (KCl). With cu(II), Ni(II), Co(II), Zn(II) and Mn(II) ions this ligand may form complexes of the compositions MH2L, MHL-, ML2- and M2L. The stability constants of these chelates have been estimated. Some of these constants are to be corrected because of statistic and electronic reasons. Structural aspects of these compounds are discussed.

Description / Table of Contents: The 1,1-complex of the p-phenylenediamine-N,N,N′,N′-tetraacetate ion with cobalt(II) ist more stable than the 1,1-complex of the same ligand with nickel(II). The 1,1-complexe of the p- as well as the m-phenylenediamine-N,N,N′,N′-tetraacetate ions with some 3d-metal ions are more stable than is to be anticipated in respect of the basicity of the ligand ions. The degree of the stabilisation depends on the structure of the ligand ions and the number of d-electrons in the metal ion. The bonding conditions in these complex ions are considered as the reasons of this anomalous behaviour.
