Notes:
The permeation of propane, propylene, ethane, and ethylene through 0.0051-cm. thick polyethylene films was measured at temperatures between 25° and -30°C. Plots of P vs. 1/T for C3H8, C3H6, and C2H6 were saucer shaped, the activation energies changing from positive (endothermic) to negative (exothermic) over a narrow temperature range. This change is attributed to a plasticization-condensation phenomenon and a change in intermolecular potentials.
