Description / Table of Contents: Abstract
Notes: Abstract The texture and adsorption properties of a natural, Hungarian mordenite were investigated by electron microscopy and BET adsorption measurements. The properties of the ion-exchanged adsorbents were characterized by CO2 and SO2 isotherms. The measurements were evaluated on the basis of the pore-filling theory of Dubinin. We have found that at 20°C the H+-form of mordenite interacts preferably with CO2, while on the Na+- and Ca2+-derivatives stronger adsorption of SO2 takes place. This fact accounts for their applicability as selective adsorbents.

Description / Table of Contents: Abstract MnO2,
Notes: Abstract MnO2 supported on Na-Y,FAU prepared as described in a previous paper has been tested for selective oxidation of benzyl alcohol to benzaldehyde. Experimental results have shown that oxidation is selective and stoichiometric under the conditions used, but the adsorption of the substrate and/or the product on the zeolite support decreases the yield of benzaldehyde.

Description / Table of Contents: Abstract
Notes: Abstract A mordenite-containing rock from the Tokaj-mountains was investigated. The effect of the treatment with hydrochloric acid solutions of various molarity was established. From gas adsorption measurements, scanning electron microscopic investigations and measurements with a mercury porosimeter conclusions were drawn on the changes caused by acid treatment. Slight changes in the texture were found, but no damage in the crystal structure could be observed.

Description / Table of Contents: Interaction of the Platinum Compounds with the Surface of the Carrier in the Process of Catalyst PreparationBy X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (ESCA), pH measurement and chemical analysis the interaction of H2PtCl6 and Pt(NH3)4Cl2 with different carriers was investigated. ESCA-Measurements (chemical shifts and line intensities) of the platinum charcoal catalysts and the different substances used for preparation show, that during the impregnation of charcoal with an aqueous solution of H2PtCl6 reduction of platinum into Pt(0) and Pt(II) takes place. The degree of reduction increases with the number of functional groups on the surface of charcoal. During adsorption of H2PtCl6 alumosilicates partial neutralization on the surface of the carrier is observed. Pt(NH3)4Cl2 is recepted by the carrier via ion exchange. The described phenomena seem to be the reason for differences in dispersity observed for different platinum charcoal catalysts.
