Notes: Abstract. We describe how video data can be organized and structured so as to facilitate efficient querying. We develop a formal model for video data and show how spatial data structures, suitably modified, provide an elegant way of storing such data. We develop algorithms to process various kinds of video queries and show that, in most cases, the complexity of these algorithms is linear. A prototype system, called the Advanced Video Information System (AVIS), based on these concepts, has been designed at the University of Maryland.

Notes: Expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE) is a bioinert material. It has the superiorproperties of thermal and chemical stabilities, low surface energy and high resistivity, so it wasapplied in many biomedical fields. In order to improve the ePTFE film biocompatibility, the coldplasma technology was used with acetic acid as monomer to deposit onto ePTFE film and then(N-isopropylacrylamide) was grafted onto the surface by photo-grafting. The characteristics of thematerial surface were evaluated with X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), FTIR and watercontact angle. It was found that the contact angle of water on the untreated ePTFE significantlydecrease from125° to 72° after ePTFE film being treated with acetic acid plasma depositionprocedure. Due to the hydrophilicity of poly(N-isopropylacrylamide), so the contact angle of wateron the ePTFE-g-NIPAAm almost approached to 0°. And we obtained the thermal-sensitive ePTFEhydrogels

Notes: This study was compare of physics and chemical property of Styrene-butadiene-styrene (SBS)/Acrylic acid (AA) copolymer after thermal polymerization and UV graft-polymerization. The resultof this study shows: when the thermal polymerization was used, the grafting percentage of SBS-g-AArose along with the increase of the AA monomer concentration. The maximum occurred whenSBS=0.5g and AA=2.5 x 0.0065mol, then it decreased along with the increase of the AAconcentration. The transition ratio and grafting percentage decreased as the concentration of SBSincreased; while AA was fixed on 0.0065mol, the maximum grafting percentage occurred by using 1gSBS. The grafting percentage increase along with the increase of reacting time, and it reached themaximum after reacting 3 hours. The water contact angle was lowered from 82o to 58o. Using the UVgraft-polymerization, when AA monomer concentration increased, the grafting percentage increasedas well; the maximum occurred when AA concentration was 2.88M. Moreover, the graftingpercentage was increasing along with the increase of reacting time, but it stopped increasing around40 minutes reacting time. The grafting percentage of thermal polymerization was higher than UVgraft-polymerization. It shows that the swelling ratio of membranes grafted using the UV light washigher than those grafted by thermal polymerization

Notes: Abstract This paper presents a new method for perturbation analysis of vibration modes with close frequencies. The main idea of this method is to transform the perturbation analysis problem of vibration modes with close frequencies into a perturbation problem associated with repeated frequencies. A numerical example is given to demonstrate the good agreement of eigensolutions obtained by this method with the exact solutions.

Notes: Abstract This paper presents an improved modal superposition method for computing eigenvector derivatives in which the contribution due to the unavailable higher modes to the eigenvector derivatives is considered. The proposed approach not only improves the accuracy previously published method, but also provides error estimates for the computed results.

Notes: Abstract In this paper, an effective method, the Rayleigh quotient iteration, for computing the bounds of structures with interval parameters is presented. When the uncertainty of the structural parameters is described by using the interval, i.e. an unknown-but-bounded version, the structural vibration eigenvalues will become the interval. It is desirable to give these interval eigenvalues. An application of this method is illustrated by a numerical example. The results show that the Rayleigh quotient iteration method is very effective for constructing the upper and lower bounds on the eigenvalues of structures with interval parameters.

Notes: Since early 1990s, tremendous growth of e-commerce has transformed the world retail infrastructure rapidly. Although the Internet burst between 2000 and 2002 which slowed down the rage in the financial market, the Internet infrastructure continues to grow and becomes an integral part of market strategic portfolio for many organizations. In order to be successful in the Internet niche, many retailers engage in business model reengineering to keep up with changes in how customers acquire goods and services. Based on in-depth interviews and a follow-up survey, the present study depicts a common online shopping process and identifies three common online shopping components: interactivity, transaction, and fulfillment. These components and their respective factors form one's online shopping experience. Managerial implications and future research directions are offered.

Notes: Explores the effect of market orientation on operating effectiveness and cost efficiency using data drawn from automotive distribution channels in Finland and Poland. The results indicate that market orientation is positively associated with measures of effectiveness such as service quality and overall customer service level. Market orientation also has a positive influence on measures of cost efficiency, such as productivity and sales per employee. In addition, profitability measures were highly associated with operating effectiveness and cost efficiency. Additional analysis suggests that market orientation has a greater effect on operating effectiveness, such as service quality, in Poland, a less-developed country, than in Finland, a more-developed country. Based on the findings, important managerial and research implications are proferred.

Notes: The authors explore the relationships among market orientation, service quality and business profitability. Based on an empirical study of Taiwan's security brokerage service industry, the research results show that there are positive associations among the three constructs. More market-oriented brokerage service firms seem to enjoy superior service quality perceptions and greater profitability. Further examinations reveal that market orientation has a stronger effect on service quality than on business profitability. Also, the service quality-profitability linkage is stronger than the market orientation-profitability linkage. The results suggest that service quality is an intermediate factor in the market orientation-profitability relationship and is a better indicator of the effectiveness of a market-oriented campaign than profitability measures.
