Description: Thirteen lightcurves of asteroid 3 Juno from three different oppositions are given. The pole of Juno is less than 10 deg from ecliptic longitude 104 deg and latitude + 36 deg (or 316 and + 62 deg). The sidereal period is 0.3003969 + or - 0.0000003 (1 sigma) day and the rotation is prograde. There is little similarity between the Juno lightcurves from 8 oppositions which is unexplained at this time.

Description: A description is presented of partial occultations of SAO 158687 by a series of rings around the planet Uranus. A 61-cm telescope at Perth Observatory in Western Australia was used in the investigations. Measurements were made using a conventional single-channel photometer equipped with an RCA C31034B photomultiplier. Uranus was centered in a 28-arc sec diameter aperture during the observations. An occultation of SAO 158687 by Uranus itself did not occur at Perth. However, five brief partial occultations of SAO 158687 were detected with the chart recorder. The midtimes, durations, and depths of these events are listed in a table.

Description: Lightcurves of asteroid 44 Nysa obtained during 20 nights in 1979 as part of a global compaign are presented. The synodic period was 6 hours and 25.3 minutes. The phase coefficient of the primary maximum was 0.026 mag/deg and the absolute V magnitude 7.05. The phase function is linear from 2 to 25 deg, no opposition effect is present.

Description: Column density profiles in C2 and CN as well as in blue and red continuum (BC and RC) were constructed from two dimensional images of the coma of Comet Wilson (1987VII). The authors' analysis showed that the continuum profiles decrease with the nuclear distance rho as 1/rho. From the C2 and CN profiles the authors determined the parent and the daughter lifetimes as well as the production rates in terms of the vectorial model.

Description: In 1976 we began a program of narrowband photometry of comets that has encompassed well over 400 nights of observations. To date, the program has provided detailed information on 80 comets, 11 of which have been observed on multiple apparitions. In this paper we present the observed range of compositions (molecular production rate ratios) and dustiness (gas production compared with AF-rho) for a well sampled group of comets. Based on these results we present preliminary analysis of taxonomic groupings as well as the abundance ratios we associate with a 'typical' comet.

Description: The Comet Bradfield 1979 X provided the most recent opportunity to obtain quantitative photometric data on a comet. Although the comet was not unusually luminous, its very close approach to earth made it possible to observe it from the time of discovery at a heliocentric distance of just over 0.5 AU until it was beyond 1.5 AU from the Sun. The observations conducted are discussed along with aspects of data reduction. It was found that the OH production of comets can be experimentally studied on the basis of a routine procedure. The Comet Bradfield 1979 X was one of the gassiest comets ever observed, comparable to Comet P/Encke. The production rates of all molecular species were found to decline sharply with heliocentric distance.

Description: Results are presented for narrow-band photometry of four recent periodic comets. The observed fluxes are used to estimate carbon radical production rates, gas-to-dust ratios, and the colors of the dust grains. It is found that in most respects the periodic comets exhibit the same range of properties typical of parabolic comets. Comet P/Chernykh is one of the dustiest comets on record, and its dust is physically different from that of the other comets considered. A correlation between the gas-to-dust ratio and the color of the grains is tentatively proposed. The need for homogeneous data on a large number of comets is emphasized.

Description: A comprehensive set of observations, both from the ground and with the IUE, was planned for the 1984 apparition of Comet Encke. The observations were intended to confirm the behavior seen in 1980 and to study the behavior of the comet after perihelion. The results of the observations indicate that all the measured trace species display an asymmetry around the perihelion that is consistent with the visual light curve (VLC). But the total gas production as monitored by OH (the dominant species) displays a behavior that has no relation to the VLC.

Description: Narrow-band filter photometry of comet P/Giacobini-Zinner was obtained on 15 nights at Lowell Observatory in the interval from June 15 to Nov. 20, 1985. The emission bands of OH, NH, CN, C3, and C2 were isolated, along with continuum points at 3650 A and 4845 A. All observed species showed pronounced asymmetry about perihelion, with preperihelion abundances being greater by more than a factor of 2 than postperihelion abundances over the heliocentric distance range of 1.0-1.5 AU. The characteristics of the asymmetry were significantly different than observed in previous apparitions, with the peak production rates occurring in late July/early August. The unusually low C2/CN abundance ratio seen in previous apparitions is confirmed by the present observations. Furthermore, the QH data demonstrate that the C2 in Giacobini-Zinner (along with C3 and NH) is depleted when compared to water (the dominant species), rather than CN being unusually over abundant.
