Niobium nitrides are prepared from niobium metal powder and nitrogen at temperatures of 1200 to 1500°C and pressures up to 160 at. They belong either to the cubic δ phase or to the hexagonal ε phase. Their maximum nitrogen content corresponds to the formula NbN1.06(= Nb0.94N). The highest amount of all lattice vacancies of the cubic nitride being filled has been found at the composition NbN1.00.

Aus Niobmetallpulver und Stickstoff wurden bei Temperaturen von 1200 bis 1500°C und Drucken bis 160 at Niobnitride dargestellt. Sie gehören der kubischen δ-Phase oder der hexonalen ε-Phase an und können einen maximalen Stickstoffgehalt entsprechend einer Zusammensetzung NbN1,06(= Nb0,94N) erreichen. Der Gitterbesetzungsgrad der kubischen Nitride zeigt bei der Zusammensetzung NbN1,00 ein Maximum.
