Notes: Abstract Supernumerary chromosomes have been observed in a few individuals of three subspecies of Rattus rattus from India and Nepal. The supernumerary chromosomes are late replicating and positively heteropycnotic during meiosis which characterize their heterochromatic nature. Their G-banding patterns do not exactly resemble the patterns exhibited by the chromosomes of similar size and morphology of the normal complement. The supernumerary chromosomes become conspicuous for the lack of a centromeric C-band in them as compared to the prominent C-bands in other chromosomes of the complement.

Notes: Abstract We have investigated theγ-rays from the decay of 46-min51Mn produced by the50Cr (d, n) reaction. Twelveγ-rays were observed. Theseγ-rays have been incorporated into a level scheme of51Cr with levels at 0, 749.1, 1164.4, 1353.3, 1557.4, 1899.4, 2001.4, 2312.5 and 2829.7 keV. Branching ratios, logft values, and jπ assignments are discussed for these levels. The lifetime of the 749.1 keV level was measured to be T1/2=7.6 ± 0.3 ns by utilizing the51V(p, n γ 51Cr reaction produced by a 3.8 MeV pulsed proton beam. The 749 keV,E2 transition is hindered by a factor of 34 compared to the Weisskopf estimate.

Notes: Abstract The 810.6–863.6 keV γγ-directional correlation has been measured with an NaI(Tl)-Ge(Li) detector system. The NaI window was set on the 810.6+863.6 keV composite peak. From the (810.6 NaI gate) (863.6 Ge spectrum) data at 90 °, 135 °, and 180 °, we deducedA 2=+0.51±0.03 andA 4=+0.09±0.04. These results disagree with the values previously obtained from58Co decay (with Nal-NaI detector systems) but agree with the values from γγ(θ) studies following thermal neutron capture by57Fe.

Notes: Summary We have studied in this paper irrotational cnoidal waves at the interface of a two-fluid system over a toroidal channel of arbitrary cross section. Also we have discussed here interfacial cnoidal waves in a straight channel of arbitrary cross section. Further, we have worked out some special cases and it is found that the results of our analysis are in agreement withBenjamin [7] andLong [12] etc.

Notes: Abstract Isochronal and isothermal ageing experiments have been carried out to determine the influence of 0.01 at. % addition of a second solute on the clustering rate in the quenched Al-4,4 a/o Zn alloy. The influence of quenching and ageing temperatures has been interpreted to obtain the apparent vacancy formation and vacancy migration energies in the various ternary alloys. Using a vacancy-aided clustering model the following values of binding free energy have been evaluated: Ce-0.18; Dy-0.24; Fe-0.18; Li-0.25; Mn-0.27; Nb-0.18; Pt-0.23; Sb-0.21; Si-0.30; Y-0.25; and Yb-0.23 (± 0.02 eV). These binding energy values refer to that between a solute atom and a single vacancy. The values of vacancy migration energy (c. 0.4 eV) and the experimental activation energy for solute diffusion (c. 1.1 eV) are unaffected by the presence of the ternary atoms in the Al-Zn alloy.

Notes: Abstract The influence of 0.03 and 0.08 at. % Ag additions on the clustering of Zn atoms in an Al-4.4 at. % Zn alloy has been studied by resistometry. The effect of quenching and ageing temperatures shows that the ageing-ratio method of calculating the vacancy-solute atom binding energy is not applicable to these alloys. Zone-formation in Al-Zn is unaffected by Ag additions, but the zone-reversion process seems to be influenced. Apparent vacancy-formation energies in the binary and ternary alloys have been used to evaluate the v-Ag atom binding energy as 0.21 eV. It is proposed that, Ag and Zn being similar in size, the relative vacancy binding results from valency effects, and that in Al-Zn-Ag alloys clusters of Zn and Ag may form simultaneously, unaffected by the presence of each other.

Description / Table of Contents: Es wurde versucht, Cellulose II durch Hydrolyse von Celluloseacetat (Polymerisationsgrad = 345) in verd.
Notes: An attempt was made to crystallize cellulose II by hydrolyzing cellulose acetate (DP = 345) in dilute acetic acid medium. Though the cellulose chains are known to be less flexible, they exhibit a crystal structure similar to that obtained for flexible synthetic polymers. The effects of temperature and of acetic acid concentration on the crystal structure were studied. It was shown that cellulose could be crystallized in a variety of structural features if the strong intermolecular hydrogen bonding, which under ordinary circumstances dominates the flexibility of the backbone, is avoided by appropriate experimental conditions.
