Description / Table of Contents: Summary 1. Function and rig of a modified Lippmann capillary electrometer has been described. By use of a pressure adjustment an improvement of theγ-E measurements is possible. 2. The electrocapillary curves of the following alkyl phosphine acid alkyl esters were registered: (C2H5)2·PO·OR (R = CH3; C2H5; C3H7−n, C3H7−i, C4H9−n; C4H9−i). By evaluation of the electrocapillary curves were obtained the Gibbs-isotherms and the charge density potential curves. 3. The electrocapillary curves show as a function of the length of the ester alkyl group an increasing lowering of the interfacial tension from methyl to butyl ester, 'related to one constant concentration. In comparison with the normal chain esters the influence of the isomeric groups is only weak. 4. The obtained molecular areas show not a good agreement with those values got by molecular models. A good agreement was found in the case of the butyl ester. The differences between this values may be due to the weak density of the molecules in the adsorption layer. The shift in the crossing point in theq m -E-curves gives references, that in dependence of the length of the ester group the density of the molecules in the adsorption layer may be changed.
Notes: Zusammenfassung 1. Funktion und Aufbau eines modifizierten Kapillarelektrometers nach Lippmann werden beschrieben. Mittels empfindlicher Druckregulierung ist eine wesentliche Verbesserung derγ-E-Messungen möglich. 2. Es wurden die Elektrokapillarkurven folgender homologer Di-äthyl-phosphinsäure-alkylester aufgenommen: (C2H5)2·PO·OR (R = CH3; C2H5; C3H7−n; C3H7−i; C4H9−n; C4H9−i).

Notes: Summary The growth hormone (GH) and prolactin releasing (PRL) activity of [D-Met2, Pro5]-enkephalinamide (EKNH2), an opioid peptide analog with higher opiate agonist activity that morphine, was compared in the unanesthetized male rat to those of equimolar doses of morphine upon systemic injection. EKNH2 proved to be a higher PRL, but not GH, releaser than the opiate alkaloid.

Notes: Abstract A method is developed for handling the effect of a finite amplitude on the results of potential modulation differentiation. The procedure is applied to harmonic modulation and allows to extrapolate measured Fourier coefficients to zero modulation amplitude. It is therefore possible to use modulation amplitudes as dictated by signal-to-noise considerations avoiding dynamical broadening of the detected signal. The formalism can be easily extended to combine with dynamic background subtraction. Examples are given for soft x-ray appearance potential measurements.

Notes: Summary 1. O2-consumption (O2), rectal temperature (T re) and heart rate were measured in two adult springhares (♂,♀; body mass 2.2–2.4 kg) at ambient temperatures (T a) from 6–35 °C. Abdominal temperature in the female and heart rate in both animals were determined by telemetry. 2. AtT a's from 23–28 °C rectal temperature in both animals ranged between 35.5–36.3 °C. This range was well maintained at lowT a's. Exposure to highT a's, however, led to a considerable rise of the rectal temperature (to above 39 °C atT a=35 °C). 3. The lowest oxygen uptake (0.32–0.37 ml O2·g−1·h−1) was found between 23–33 °C. This is only 65–75% of the predicted value in similar sized mammals. Below 23 °C O2-consumption increased rapidly up to approximately 2,5 times (6–7 °C) the value in the thermoneutral zone (23–33 °C). AtT a's above 33 °C the heat dissipating capacities of the springhares proved to be inadequate and consequentlyT re rose steadily. 4. Basal heart rate (75–85 beats·min−1) was about 30% below the standard value for similar sized mammals. During exposure to cold the heart rate sometimes exceeded 200 beats·min−1. 5. The measured parameters are discussed with special regard to the extent of the springhare's adaptation to arid conditions. It is concluded that these rodents are physiologically adapted to fossorial habits rather than to life in desert environments and are thus restricted to semi-arid areas.
