Description: The effect of pressure on L-alanine has been studied by X-ray powder diffraction (up to 12.3 GPa), single-crystal X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy and optical microscopy (up to ∼ 6 GPa). No structural phase transitions have been observed. At ∼ 2 GPa the cell parametersaandbbecome accidentally equal to each other, but without a change in space-group symmetry. Neither of two transitions reported by others (to a tetragonal phase at ∼ 2 GPa and to a monoclinic phase at ∼ 9 GPa) was observed. The changes in cell parameters were continuous up to the highest measured pressures and the cells remained orthorhombic. Some important changes in the intermolecular interactions occur, which also manifest themselves in the Raman spectra. Two new orthorhombic phases could be crystallized from a MeOH/EtOH/H2O pressure-transmitting mixture in the pressure range 0.8–4.7 GPa, but only if the sample was kept at these pressures for at least 1–2 d. The new phases converted back to L-alanine on decompression. Judging from the Raman spectra and cell parameters, the new phases are most probably not L-alanine but its solvates.

Description: Se describen las estructuras reproductivas en Avrainvillea elliottii A. Gepp et E. S. Gepp, A. longicaulis f. laxa D. S. Littler et M. M. Littler y A. digitata Littler et Littler para aguas cubanas. Norris, Ulva rigida C. Agardh, Caulerpa prolifera f. obovata (J. Littler.Details of reproductive structures in Avrainvillea elliottii A. Gepp et E. S. Gepp, A. longicaulis f. laxa D. S. Littler et M. M. Littler and A. digitata Littler et Little rare described for first time in Cuban water. Plentiful herbarium samples of Avrainvillea and recently collected material are checked. 41 Epiphyte taxa were recorded: 23 Rhodopyta, 4 Ochrophyta and 14 Chlorophyta. Avrainvillea levis Howe evidenced had growing on its blades or the ends of its stipes specimens of its own specie. Rhizoid the attachment structure in the epiphyte thallus of A.levis has the shape of a disc. The stipe showed the largest number of epiphyt species. Seven marine algae species: Rhodogorgon ramosissima N. Norris et Bucher, Botryocladia spinulifera W. R. Taylor et I. A. Abbott, Ceratodictyon scoparium (Mont. et Millardet) R.E. Norris, Ulva rigida C. Agardh, Caulerpa prolifera f. obovata (J. Agardh) Weber Bosse, H. monile f. robusta (Børgesen) Collins et Herv., and Udotea cyathiformis var. cyathiformis f. infundibulum (J. Agardh) D.S Littler et M.M Littler, are added to the flora of Cuba.

Description: It was identified an exotic shrimp species as Penaeus monodon, the giant tiger shrimp, by means of 3 females captured in coastal lagoons of Júcaro, golf of Ana María, Cuba. The length was from 270 mm to 290 mm total length (Lt) weigh between 140 g to 230 g. The presences of the species represented an adaptation to Cuban waters and constitute a positive perspective for shrimp culture.
