Beschreibung: The movies show the evolution in time of 2-D numerical model calculations investigating hydrothermal fluid flow around a cooling sills in a sedimentary basin. Each movie shows the evolution of a single variable for a specific model setup. The reported variables are: water fraction in the host rock (fH2O), mass of methane (mCH4), permeability (Perm), porosity (Phi), temperature (T), and TOC content of the host rock (TOC). S0: five reference simulations in simplified setups S1-S3 : The basin has been dissected in three regions with different basin depths. Each of these regions was investigated in a specific 2D modelling section which is refered to as setup S1, S2 and S3, respectively.

Beschreibung: Paleo-climate records and geodynamic modelling indicate the existence of complex interactions between glacial sea level changes, volcanic degassing, and atmospheric CO2, which may have modulated the climate system's descent into the last ice age. Between ~85-70 ka, during an interval of decreasing axial tilt, the orbital component in global temperature records gradually declined, while atmospheric CO2, instead of continuing is long-term correlation with Antarctic temperature, remained relatively stable. Based on novel global geodynamic models and the joint interpretation of paleo-proxy data as well as biogeochemical simulations, we show that a sea level fall in this interval caused enhanced pressure-release melting in the uppermost mantle, which may have induced a surge in magma and CO2 fluxes from mid-ocean ridges and oceanic hotspot volcanoes. Our results reveal a hitherto unrecognised negative feedback between glaciation and atmospheric CO2 predominantly controlled by marine volcanism on multi-millennial (suborbital) timescales of ~ 5,000-15,000 years.

Notizen: The important role of dissolved elements, such as manganese or iron, in the production process ofrolled material was in the focus of this investigation. In the AlMn-alloys the content of manganese in solid solution is first controlled by other alloyingelements such as silicon and iron. The addition of silicon or / and iron reduces the level ofmanganese in solid solution in the as-cast condition as well as in the following preheating processstep. Another major parameter is the final annealing treatment of the rolled products. Thepreheating treatment and the final annealing are the key parameters to control the level ofmanganese in solid solution and the size and distribution of the fine dispersoids. In the AlFe-series alloys the iron content in solid solution is first controlled by the casting processDC or CC and the amount of iron in the alloy composition. In the as-cast condition the dissolvediron level is normally higher in the CC-material than in the DC-material. The intermediateannealing treatment also has a great influence on the content of iron in solid solution. They recovery and recrystallisation behaviour is controlled by the content of manganese or iron insolid solution. The precipitation of manganese or iron during thermal treatment leads to optimumdislocation pinning and results in a high thermal stability. On the other hand, if the precipitation ofmanganese or iron interacts with the occurence of recrystallisation, the resulting grain structure canshow coarse grain

Beschreibung / Inhaltsverzeichnis: Summary The 16 years of study gave 439 clutches with 2,256 eggs. We separated three types of breeding sites: the use of (a) stick nests, mostly built by corvids (cf. Tab., Fig. 3), (b1) nest boxes attached to trees or telegraph poles (Fig. 2) and (b2) nest boxes or cavities at or in buildings (Fig. 1). Within these different types of breeding places we found some significant differences. Stick nests had less eggs and though less breeding success, which was possibly caused by predation of corvids, especially magpies. Within the two types of places with nest boxes no significant differences could be established. We concluded, that stick nests were marginal in Kestrels and nest boxes were optimal despite of their placement in trees, at poles or in buildings. Furthermore, the timing of breeding cycle was described (Fig. 4) and laying interval was determind to an average value of approximately two days (Fig. 5). Mean egg size was $$\bar x_{(1,054)} = 39.6\, \times 31.9mm$$ and average volume 21.2 cm2. Two daily controlled clutches lost 15.5% and 16.1% of mass (Fig. 6) pressumably mostly due to water losses.
Baumbruten in Nistkästen; B2.

Notizen: Conclusions Iron has a pivotal role in serum inhibition and filamentation. That there may be an inverse relationship between inhibition and filamentation is suggested by the observations that free serum iron abolishes inhibition and stimulates filamentation. Evidence indicates that filamentation results from the interaction of substrates, growth conditions, and temperature, rather than from a single factor. Filamentation occurs during clumping and appears to be necessary for the manifestation of this later process, but any further relationship is unknown. Opsonins seem to be a part of the complement system or their function at least is dependent upon complement activity. Their interaction with surface antigens form chemotactic stimulants but their contribution to the phagocytic destruction of C. Albicans is unclear. All of these serum-Candida interactions are in vitro observations. Although opsonization and phagocytosis probably play a vital role in the in vivo defenses against invading Candida, the contribution of these other interactions to host resistance remain unknown.
