Notizen: A three-parameter family of solutions of Einstein's field equations is given that represents a collapsing perfect fluid with outgoing neutrino flux. Solutions with "naked'' singularities are exhibited. They can be forbidden by requiring pressure less than or equal to the density as a condition of cosmic censorship.

Notizen: The mass of gravitational sources differs by a factor of 2 when computed by the Komar superpotential and when computed in the gravitational weak field limit. The difference has been recognized for some time since both the linearized theory and the Einstein pseudotensor yield the same value, different by a factor of 2 from the Komar mass. The great advantage of the Komar superpotential over other methods is its tensorial formulation, however it fails to produce a Noether quantity. A different tensorial method is suggested that is free of the mass anomaly, namely, the zero and first Taub numbers [Phys. Rev. D 47, 474 (1993)] which are indeed Noether quantities. The zeroth Taub number is obtained from the Penrose–Goldberg superpotential [Phys. Rev. D 41, 410 (1990)].

Notizen: We consider homothetic maps in a family of spherical relativistic star models. A generalization of Vaidya's radiating metric provides a fluid atmosphere of radiation and strings. The similarity structure of the string fluid is investigated. © 1999 American Institute of Physics.

Notizen: Mass and angular momentum of asymptotically flat systems are computed by Taub number τ1. This work extends the Taub number method from a vacuum region outside the central source to a region with stationary electric and magnetic fields while preserving global mass and angular momentum. The Reissner–Nordström and Kerr–Newman solutions are treated. Function spaces for curves of solutions of the coupled Einstein–Maxwell equations are discussed, together with the linearized field equations which are directional derivatives of the field equations along the solution curves in the direction of the perturbation.

Notizen: We present a solution generating technique for anisotropic fluids which preserves specific Killing symmetries. Anisotropic matter distributions that can be used with the one parameter Ehlers–Geroch transform are discussed. Example space–times that support the appropriate anisotropic stress-energy are found and the transformation applied. The 3+1 black string solution is one of the space–times with the appropriate matter distribution. Use of the transform with a black string seed is discussed. © 2002 American Institute of Physics.

Notizen: This work extends the ideas presented in Taub I [Phys. Rev. D 47, 474 (1993)]. Taub numbers are studied as a set of tensorial conservation laws derivable from curves of solutions to the Einstein equations. The zeroth-order Taub numbers for mass and angular momentum are computed using the Penrose–Goldberg superpotential [Phys. Rev. D 41, 410 (1990)]. A superpotential for the higher-order Taub vectors is given and is gauge invariant with respect to the perturbation gauge. Taub numbers are computed for the Schwarzschild and Kerr solutions, Schwarzschild and Kerr viewed as perturbations of Minkowski and Schwarzschild, respectively, and for the stationary perturbations of Schwarzschild. Taub numbers are found to give a tensorial formulation for mass and angular momentum for asymptotically flat spacetimes. A new solution generation technique for asymptotically flat solutions is also presented.

Notizen: The computational use of Killing potentials which satisfy Penrose's equation is discussed. Penrose's equation is presented as a conformal Killing–Yano equation and the class of possible solutions is analyzed. It is shown that solutions exist in space–times of Petrov type O, D, or N. In the particular case of the Kerr background, it is shown that there can be no Killing potential for the axial Killing vector. © 1999 American Institute of Physics.

Notizen: When the Penrose–Goldberg (PG) superpotential is used to compute the angular momentum of an axial symmetry, the Killing potential Qμν(cursive-phi) for that symmetry is needed. Killing potentials used in the PG superpotential must satisfy Penrose's equation. It is proved for the Schwarzschild and Kerr solutions that the Penrose equation does not admit a Qμν(cursive-phi) at finite r and therefore the PG superpotential can only be used to compute angular momentum asymptotically. © 1996 American Institute of Physics.
