Notizen: The energy distribution of interface states in the Si forbidden gap at ultrathin thermal oxide/Si(111) interfaces is obtained from x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy measurements under bias. All the observed interface state spectra have peaked structure, indicating that they are due to Si dangling bonds. For thermal oxide layers formed at 350 °C, only one interface state peak is present near the midgap. The interface state peak has ∼0.1 eV width, showing that the effective correlation energy of the Si dangling bond interface state is less than ∼0.1 eV. For oxide layers produced above 550 °C, on the other hand, two peaks are observed, one above and the other below the midgap. It is found using a density functional theory method by employing clusters containing 27 bulk-like Si atoms (interior atoms, without H passivation) that an isolated Si dangling bond, with which no atoms in the oxide layer interact, has an energy level near the midgap. It is also found from the calculations that weak interaction of the Si dangling bond with a Si atom having an unpaired electron lowers the Si dangling bond energy below the midgap, while the interaction with an oxygen or Si atom having lone-pair electrons elevates it above the midgap. When the oxide layers are formed at low temperatures, the atomic density of the oxide layer is low, leading to a long distance between a Si dangling bond and the atom in the oxide layer, thus resulting in the isolated Si dangling bond interface state near the midgap. The higher the formation temperature of the oxide layer, the higher the atomic density, resulting in a shorter distance between a Si dangling bond and the interacting atom in the oxide layer. The interface state peaks are shifted from the midgap due to the weak interaction. © 1999 American Institute of Physics.

Notizen: A simple method to passivate interface states at ultrathin SiO2/Si interfaces is developed. In this method, ultrathin SiO2-covered Si is immersed in a KCN solution containing crown-ether, followed by a rinse in water at 25 °C. The conductance–voltage measurements show that the interface state density is decreased to ∼1/10 by this crown-ether cyanide treatment. The capacitance–voltage measurements show that contamination by K+ ions is effectively avoided by the inclusion of crown-ether. These results demonstrate that crown-ether molecules effectively capture K+ ions and consequently CN− ions effectively may react with defect states, probably forming Si–CN bonds. The passivation of interface states by the cyanide treatment improves the electrical characteristics of metal–oxide–semiconductor tunneling diodes. © 2000 American Institute of Physics.

Notizen: Environment-friendly “green” composites were fabricated from a starch-based,dispersion-type biodegradable resin and cellulose nanofibers. The mixture of the dispersion-typebiodegradable resin and cellulose nanofibers were blended well by using a home-use mixer and astirrer, and then dried in air or in a vacuum. Composites were prepared by conventional hot pressing ata constant temperature of 140ºC and at pressures from 10 to 50 MPa. Their flexural strength as well asflexural modulus increased with increasing the molding pressure, and were also affected bypreparation methods and conditions. Their mechanical properties such as strength and modulus had agood correlation with their density. Especially it can be seen that there is significant effectiveness in astirrer mixing process, which results in the improved uniform dispersion of nanofibers

Notizen: Abstract The threshold logic filter is an important nonlinear filter class, which is defined by a threshold logic function of binary input values. It is proved in this paper that not all positive self-dual logical functions are threshold functions if the number of input variables is 5 or more. The positive self-dual logical filter is a limited class but includes almost all filters for noise removal. Our result means that not all positive self-dual filters can be expressed by one operation of the threshold logic filters. In the sense of the filter expression by neural networks, the two-layer network cannot always optimize even this limited class.

Notizen: Abstract An efficient algorithm based on the simulated annealing for the learning optimization of morphological filters is proposed. The learning stage is divided into two consecutive parts; the initial-learning stage finds and fixes the most important parts of the structuring elements, and the precise-learning stage determines details of the rest. This method significantly reduces the number of trials for the modification of structuring elements. The proposed algorithm is applied to the learning optimization of the bipolar morphological operation, whose optimization problem has not yet been investigated. It is shown experimentally that the algorithm optimizes the operator as efficiently as the conventional one and reduces the amount of calculation.
