Notes:
Two simple devices based on Auston switches are described for optoelectronic pulse generation. The first technique uses a partially illuminated gap and produces variable pulse durations ≤21 ps and amplitudes in the 5 V range. The second device benefits from the carrier lifetime shortening of proton-implanted GaAs yielding pulses of 12 ps and 500 mV. © 1995 American Institute of Physics.
