Notizen: Abstract The notion of dynamical semigroup is introduced in the quantum logic scheme on the set of the states. Under suitable nonempty mathematical assumptions it is shown that a Heisenberg picture exists equivalent to the Schrödinger one and having many aspects similar to those of the Hilbert case.

Notizen: Abstract The quantization of the Dirac field in thecontext of the Robertson–Walker spacetime isreconsidered in some of its constitutive elements. Theparticular solutions of the Dirac equation previouslydetermined are used to construct the normal mode solutionsin the case of flat, closed, and open space-time. Theprocedure is based on a general standard definition ofinner product between solutions of the Dirac equation that is applied by making use of anintegral property of the separated time equation. Theopen-space case requires the recurrence relations offunctions associated to solutions of the Diracequation.

Notizen: Abstract The formulation of the Dirac equation withelectromagnetic field for a general space–time isspecialized to the Robertson–Walker metric. For aclass of physically meaningful electromagneticpotentials the angular part of the wave function separates asin the free-field case. The scheme is explicitly studiedfor a Coulomb potential. By using a realisticapproximation method one recovers the discrete energy levels of the hydrogen atom in Minkowski space. In case of static space–time, the result is exactfor zero curvature, while it is approximate for nonzerocurvature. The very good order of accuracy of the result is established by a comparison withsimilar qualitative and perturbative results.

Notizen: Abstract The quantization of the scalar field is reconsidered in some of its basic elements in the context of the Robertson-Walker space-time. The integration of the generalized Klein-Gordon equation is performed by preliminary separation of the equation with the usual separation method. The orthonormal mode solutions are determined by the explicit integration of the resulting angular and radial equations and by standard properties of the time equation. The time evolution given by the standard cosmological model is briefly discussed.

Notizen: Abstract A possible picture of the axiomatic basis of quantum mechanics is drawn and the set of propositions of the quantum logic approach to quantum mechanics is shown to be a complete, orthocomplemented and weakly modular lattice. A condition that the set of propositions be atomic is found, in which the notion of ‘characteristic state” is involved. This scheme is compared with the usual Hilbert one, and in a Hilbert picture in which discrete superselection rules can be present also, the characteristic states are shown to be the pure states.

Notizen: Abstract The diffraction pattern for particles passingthrough N slits is obtained by a truncation assumptionon the Gaussian wave function when passing the slits andby pure wave propagation governed by the Schrodinger equation with boundaries. The standard limitingsituations give the usual results. In case of a greatnumber of equal and equally separated slits thecalculations are performed by considering also theenergy band structure induced by the periodic boundarygeometry on the initial conditions. The results, whichare qualitatively satisfactory in both cases, do notagree completely in general nor in the limiting cases.

Notizen: Abstract The massless field equations for arbitrary spin in curved space-time arereconsidered. The general solution of the field equation in Robertson-Walkerspace-time that was previously determined is briefly discussed after explicitlyshowing that the Weyl spinor vanishes. The case of the Lemaître-Tolman-Bondispace-time is studied in detail. The general expression of the corresponding Weylspinor is obtained and some particular situations exploited. The spin-3/2 andspin-2 massless field equations are solved explicitly. The solutions are simplifiedby the existence of nontrivial algebraic constraints. The angular part of theequations is separated by the usual separation method and integrated directly. The other equations that are not separated in the radial and time dependence arereduced to a simple form. The results obtained are extended, as a consequenceof previous results, to the case of arbitrary spin. The solution of the general caseessentially reduces to the treatment of spin 3/2 and spin 2.

Notizen: Abstract The Tolman-Bondi model is studied and integrated via the Newman-Penrose formalism. The results are used to discuss the Dirac equation. It is shown that there exist time regions during which the cosmological background can be considered fixed and the Dirac equation separated and reduced in a standard way to a one-dimensional wave equation.

    Schlagwort(e): Minkowski causal logic
Quelle: Springer Online Journal Archives 1860-2000
    Thema: Physik
Notizen: Abstract The Minkowski causal logic, which is already known to be a complete orthomodular lattice, is found to be also an atomistic and irreducible logic, but to have no other essential properties to be represented in terms of all the subspace of some Hilbert space. Alternative representation of the logic in terms of subspaces of a real vector space or of the states in terms of probability measures are suggested.
