Description:
It has been demonstrated that the offset of active cavity radiometer detectors is sensitive to postfabrication curing techniques and that the resulting changes in offset can have a significant effect on measurements in the unshuttered mode of operation. Here, the origin and physics of this phenomenon are described, and an approach is examined which successfully achieves superior radiometric measurement performance. Ground and flight data from the Earth Radiation Budget Experiment program are presented, and alternative solutions are discussed.
