    Description: Abstract
    Description: The data result from a sedimentological and geochemical multiproxy approach to study a Holocene palaeolake record north of Tayma, NW Saudi Arabia. The lacustrine, partly varved record was analysed in the frame of the DFG founded project CLEAR “Holocene climatic events in Northern Arabia - Environmental changes and human response”. The Tayma palaeolake record comprises continuous lacustrine sediments covering the early to mid-Holocene. The dataset allows detailed palaeoenvironmental and palaeoclimate interpretations from the early Holocene humid period and subsequent dryer conditions during the mid-Holocene. The dataset is part of the supplementary material to “Neugebauer et al. (submitted)” where further details about the locality, core composite, age model, sampling and analytical methods and data processing are given. The data are provided in individual xlsx-files per type of data. The different files include sedimentological and geochemical data determined on the ca. 6 m long master core from the sediment cores (Tay 220/221 and Tay 253/254/255/256): (i) sediment core microfacies data, (ii) bulk total organic carbon (TOC) and carbonate delta13C_carb and delta18O_carb data, (iii) single aragonite laminae delta13C_arag and delta18O_arag data, (iv) concentrations of n-alkanes n-C29 and n-C31 and hydrogen isotope composition deltaD, (v) XRF core scanning data. All data are provided on composite depths and age scales (based on Bayesian age modelling of radiocarbon dates, varve counting and one tephrochronological anchor; see details in the Supplementary material of Neugebauer et al., submitted).

    Description: Abstract
    Description: The new climate dataset BASD-CMIP6-PE for Peru and Ecuador based on the bias-adjusted and statistically downscaled CMIP6 projections of 10 GCMs addresses the need for reliable high-resolution (1d, 10km) climate data covering Peru and Ecuador. This dataset includes both historical simulations (1850-2014) and future projections (2015-2100) for precipitation and minimum, mean, and maximum temperature under three Shared Socioeconomic Pathways (SSPs; SSP1-2.6, SSP3-7.0, and SSP5-8.5). The BASD-CMIP6-PE climate data were generated using the trend-preserving Bias Adjustment and Statistical Downscaling (BASD) method (Lange, 2019, 2021) and data from regional observational datasets such as RAIN4PE (Fernandez-Palomino et al., 2021a, b) for precipitation and PISCO-temperature (Huerta et al., 2018) for temperatures as reference data. The Reliability of the BASD-CMIP6-PE was evaluated through hydrological modeling across Peruvian and Ecuadorian river basins in the historical period. The evaluation showed that the BASD-CMIP6-PE is reliable for describing the spatial patterns of atmospheric variables and streamflow simulation, including low and high flows. This suggests the usefulness of the new dataset for climate change impact assessment studies in Peru and Ecuador. The BASD-CMIP6-PE data are available for the domain covering Peru and Ecuador, located between 19°S and 2°N and 82-67°W, at 0.1° spatial and daily temporal resolution. The precipitation unit is mm, and the temperature is in °C. The data are in the NetCDF format and arranged by model, model member, experiment, variable, temporal resolution, and subset period (e.g., canesm5_r1i1p1f1_ssp126_pr_daily_2015_2020.nc).

    Description: In general, a moderate drying trend is observed in mid-latitude arid Central Asia since the Mid-Holocene, attributed to the progressively weakening influence of the mid-latitude Westerlies on regional climate. However, as the spatio-temporal pattern of this development and the underlying climatic mechanisms are yet not fully understood, new high-resolution paleoclimate records from this region are needed. Within this study, a sediment core from Lake Son Kol (Central Kyrgyzstan) was investigated using sedimentological, (bio)geochemical, isotopic, and palynological analyses, aiming at reconstructing regional climate development during the last 6000 years. Biogeochemical data, mainly reflecting summer moisture conditions, indicate predominantly wet conditions until 4950 cal. yr BP, succeeded by a pronounced dry interval between 4950 and 3900 cal. yr BP. In the following, a return to wet conditions and a subsequent moderate drying trend until present times are observed. This is consistent with other regional paleoclimate records and likely reflects the gradual Late Holocene diminishment of the amount of summer moisture provided by the mid-latitude Westerlies. However, climate impact of the Westerlies was apparently not only restricted to the summer season but also significant during winter as indicated by recurrent episodes of enhanced allochthonous input through snowmelt, occurring before 6000 cal. yr BP and at 5100-4350, 3450-2850, and 1900-1500 cal. yr BP. The distinct ~1500-year periodicity of these episodes of increased winter precipitation in Central Kyrgyzstan resembles similar cyclicities observed in paleoclimate records around the North Atlantic, likely indicating a hemispheric-scale climatic teleconnection and an impact of North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) variability in Central Asia.
