    Description: This volume in homage to the academic and teaching work of Angelita Martínez aims to recognize the career trajectory of a tireless researcher. Her work is well-known in the most recognized spaces of dissemination of linguistics. In this school, Facultad de Humanidades y Ciencias de la Educación (FaHCE), she developed her teaching and research work, first from the Chair of Hispanic Philology, and then from the Chair of Linguistics. She currently leads the Center for Linguistic Studies and Research and the Master's Degree Program in Linguistics. Her work has allowed her to consolidate academic and personal connections both nationally and internationally, reflected in this compilation through a series of works by linguists belonging to different theoretical perspectives and geographic locations who share her interest in the workings of language. This volume also includes the contributions of disciples who have completed their postgraduate studies and who account for their journey and achievements attained under the guidance of their generous mentor.

Su obra se conoce en los espacios de mayor difusión de la ciencia lingüística. En esta Facultad desarrolló su tarea docente y de investigación, en primer término, desde la cátedra de Filología Hispánica, y luego desde la cátedra de Lingüística. Actualmente conduce el Centro de Estudios e Investigaciones Lingüísticas y la Maestría en Lingüística. Su labor le ha permitido consolidar vínculos académicos y personales tanto nacionales como internacionales, que se plasman en esta compilación a través de una serie de trabajos de lingüistas pertenecientes a distintas perspectivas teóricas y espacios geográficos que comparten su interés por el funcionamiento del lenguaje. Desde el Club Literario Clepsidra fundado por Gladys Zamudio Tobar en el año 2014, libramos distintas “luchas” para aportar nuestro granito de arena al panorama literario vallecaucano, nacional e internacional.     Description: In the southern border area, where Ecuador is located with neighboring Peru. There are two important cantons for its commercial passage, the canton Macará in the province of Loja, and the canton Huaquillas in the province of El Oro. Through the Coordination 7 of the Ministry of Public Health, thanks to the ProSalud Frontera Sur Project, the database of the Automated Daily Registry of Consultations and Outpatient Care was managed, which allowed us to clarify the problems at the public health level in these cantons. It can be observed throughout the text that women present a greater number of diseases compared to men, with the latter remaining stable over the three years for both Ecuadorians and foreigners.

Se encuentran dos cantones importantes por su paso comercial, el cantón Macará de la provincia de Loja, y el cantón Huaquillas de la provincia de El Oro. En donde, por medio de la Coordinación 7 del Ministerio de Salud Pública se gestionó gracias al Proyecto ProSalud Frontera Sur, la base de datos Registro Diario Automatizado de Consultas y Atenciones Ambulatorias, que nos permitió clarificar la problemática a nivel de salud pública en estos cantones. Se puede observar a lo largo del texto que las mujeres presentan mayores cantidades de enfermedades frente a los hombres manteniéndose estables estos en los tres años y tanto para ecuatorianos como para extranjeros

    Description: Globalization has not only changed our society, it has also had a profound effect on education. Many schools deal with student populations that due to migration have become increasingly multilingual. Politically, few would argue against the importance of multilingualism; rather, it is promoted to the fullest. However, in practical terms the challenges associated with teaching and educational policies have increased manifold as a result of the linguistic diversity among student bodies. Reading is certainly regarded as a key learning skill, however, the question arises as to how the students' life-world multilingualism is taken into consideration. Furthermore, being considered part of teachers' professional competence, teachers' mental processes and perceptions (beliefs) have been the focus in several different academic fields. Previous research suggests that there are significant links between teachers' beliefs and practices. This thesis explores the aforementioned aspects in greater detail, with the overall aim to gain a deeper understanding of teachers' beliefs and strategies when teaching reading in multilingual settings. Using a cross-disciplinary, qualitative research approach, the empirical inquiry is based on case studies within different, linguistically diverse settings. The case studies include classroom observations as well as teacher interviews in German, Swedish and Chilean grade 4 classrooms.

    Description: Highlighting the enormous biodiversity of the Amarakaeri Communal Reserve (ACR) and the critical role this protected area plays in the conservation of Madre de Dios, in southeastern Peru, with more than 1,700 vivid photographs, Amarakaeri: Connecting Biodiversity offers readers a glimpse into the extensive research conducted by scholars from the Smithsonian National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute and their Peruvian counterparts. For three years, scientists and local experts had the extraordinary opportunity to collect data at the premontane forests of the ACR to determine potential impacts of an exploratory gas platform on selected animal and plant groups. Amarakaeri also portrays the main threats to the ACR and presents a vision for the region’s future.
