Rotation–vibration bands of CaH and CaD were observed in the 10 μm region using a diode laser spectrometer. The calcium hydride was produced in a dc discharge of H2/D2 over calcium or, in the case of CaH, by discharging CaH2 with Ar as buffer gas. Hot bands up to v=4←3 were observed. All the bands of both CaH and CaD were analyzed simultaneously, leading to the determination of a set of mass independent parameters including the mass scaling coefficients ΔH10,ΔH20,ΔH01 and ΔH11, and of the coefficients a1 to a6 of the Dunham potential. The molecular parameters are discussed and compared to other works. Moreover, the rotational line frequencies of CaH and CaD, which are of astrophysical interest, are predicted.
