    Notes: Abstract The basic equations of turbulent gas-solid flows are derived by using the pseudo-fluid model of particle phase with a refined two-phase turbulence model. These equations are then applied to swirling gas-particle flows for analyzing the collection efficiency in cyclone separators.

Significance of these contributions was illustrated with the case of expansion through a de Laval nozzle. Duct flow and normal shock problems were also discussed. The extent of earlier methods of approximation was pointed out.
