Notes: Abstract Metal-organic acid interactions with special reference to their plant availability have been studied. The role of organic acids in the mobilization of Cr by converting it into labile organically bound form, enhancing its availability, is highlighted. Pot experiments are conducted to investigate the effect of various organic acids on the uptake and translocation of root absorbed trivalent and hexavalent chromium by maize (z. mays) plants grown in sand and soil culture. Statistically significant increases in chromium accumulation from CrIII-treated plants in the presence of increasing concentrations of organic acid suggest the existence of CrIII – organic acid interactions in the soil plant system. In order to support the above mentioned hypothesis of formation of organically bound CrIII in the presence of various organic acids (carboxylic and amino acids), separate experiments have been performed to synthesize and estimate its respective organically bound forms. Amendments with organic acids, however, do not appear to markedly affect chromium accumulation from CrVI treatment. The results are discussed on the basis of the potential of organic acids to form complexes with CrIII.

Notes: Abstract Pot experiments were conducted to investigate the effect of various organic acids (carboxylic and amino acids) on the uptake and translocation of root-absorbed trivalent chromium by tomato ( Lycopersicum esculentum) plants grown in sand and soil culture. Statistically significant increases in chromium accumulation from Cr(III) treated plants in the presence of increasing concentrations of organic acid suggest the existence of Cr(III) — organic acid interactions in the soil-plant system. However, the amino acids have been less effective in the mobilization of chromium compared to carboxylic acids. The results are discussed on the basis of the potential of organic acids to form complexes with Cr(III).

Notes: Abstract Independent isomeric yield ratios of128Sb were determined radiochemically in the thermal neutron induced fission of241Pu and 34 MeV alpha particle induced fission of238U, both involving the same compound nucleus (242Pu). Fragment angular momenta estimated from the measured isomer ratios using the statistical model analysis showed significantly larger fragment angular momenta in the medium energy fissioning system compared to the low energy fissioning system. This has been attributed to the effect of higher excitation energy and angular momentum in the entrance channel leading to increased fragment temperature, moments of inertia and angular velocity. An attempt was made to calculate the fragment angular momentum in the medium energy fission using the Fermi gas model for the fissioning nucleus, taking into account the multichance fission, saddle shapes of the fissioning nuclei and the angular velocity components of the fissioning nuclei both along and orthogonal to the fission axis. The calculated angular momenta agree well with the experimental results.

    Notes: Ultrasonic waves obtained from MULLARD's high frequency ultrasonic generator type E-7562 with a barium titanate transducer having a frequency of I Mc./sec. were employed to study the sonochemical decomposition of aqueous bromoform solution. At constant R. F. output (about 1.7 Kv) to the crystal, the reaction was found to obey the Zero-order kinetics with average velocity constants in standard unit as follows: \documentclass{article}\pagestyle{empty}\begin{document}$$ \begin{array}{*{20}c} {{\rm K}_{\rm 8} \left({{\rm Br}_{\rm 2},{\rm Br}^ - } \right) = 8.211 \cdot 10^{ - 5} {\rm gm}{\rm .eq}{\rm .lit}{\rm .}^{ - 1} {\rm min}{\rm .}^{ - 1} } \hfill \\[6pt] {{\rm K}_{\rm 8} \left({{\rm Br}_{\rm 2} } \right)\;\; = 4.182 \cdot 10^{ - 5} {\rm gm}{\rm .eq}{\rm .lit}{\rm .}^{ - 1} {\rm min}{\rm .}^{ - 1} } \hfill \\\end{array} $$\end{document} Effects of bulk and ultrasonic intensity have also been demonstrated. The rate of reaction at different dilutions of aqueous bromoform solution and also at different intensities has been investigated conductometrically. A probable mechanism of the reaction was also presented.
