    Description: The aim of this research was to study the occurrence of Vibrio spp., Aeromonas hydrophila, Escherichia coli and Campylobacter spp. in crayfish from Azerbaijan Province using culture method and PCR assay. A total of 55 isolates were collected from 97 studied samples. Vibrio spp., A. hydrophila, E. coli and Campylobacter spp. were detected in 26 samples (26.8%), 12 samples (12.3%), 15 samples (15.46%) and 2 samples (2.06%), respectively. Among Vibrio isolates, Vibrio vulnificus (11.3%) was the species most frequently detected followed by V. harveyi (7.2%), V. alginolyticus (2.06%) and V. mimicus (1.03%). The results of this study indicated that crayfish from the studied area contain pathogens relevant to public health.

    Description: Streptococcosis has been defined as a hemorrhagic septicemia in many fish species especially rainbow trout. This disease causes serious economic losses due to high mortality in fish and the bacteria responsible is also considered as a zoonotic pathogen. The aim of this study was identification of different causative agents of warm water streptococcosis and evaluation of the capsule gene in Lactococcus garvieae isolates collected from rainbow trout in Chaharmahal - Bakhtiari Province, Iran. A total of 430 clinically suspected fish were collected from 43 rainbow trout farms. The samples were analyzed using biochemical methods and multiplex-PCR. The results indicated that samples of 36 fish farms (83.7%) were infected with one of the studied bacteria. The infection by L. garvieae was found to be more than that by other species (30 of 36 farms, 83%). Infection by S. iniae and S. uberis was found in nine and one fish farm, respectively. Presence of virulence genes was studied in L. garvieae isolates by PCR assay. According to the results 34 of 50 isolates (68%) contained the capsule gene. The results revealed high prevalence of virulent L. garvieae in rainbow trout farms which should be considered in preventional policies such as vaccine production and also in public health.

    Description: The present study was done to evaluate the presence of antibiotic resistance genes in Lactococcus garvieae isolated from cultured rainbow trout, West Iran.The isolates were examined for antimicrobial resistance using disc diffusion method. Of the 24 strains tested, 21 were resistant to ampicillin (87.5%), 9 to erythromycin (37.5%) and 19 to tetracycline (79.1%). Fourteen strains were resistant to four antibiotics, 8 resistant to five antibiotics and 2 to six antibiotics.The strains were also characterized for their genotypic resistance profiles. The results revealed that all 24 isolates contained one to three of the antibiotic resistance genes. StrA, tetS and ermB genes coding for streptomycin, tetracycline and erythromycin resistance were found in 7, 10 and 9 isolates, respectively and sulfamethoxazole resistance gene, sul2, was not detected in the examined isolates. High levels of antibiotic resistance and detection of resistance genes in L. garvieae strains should be considered as a potential danger for trout culture as well as for public health.
