Abstract The herbicide difenzoquat, 1,2-dimethyl-3,5-diphenyl-pyrazolium methylsulphate, forms a weak inclusion complex with βCD having 1 : 1 stoichiometry and a formation constant ofK=70±12 mol−1 L. The complexation changes the solution conductivity and substantially enhances the fluorescence intensity. The probable configuration of the inclusion complex is the insertion of the pyrazole ring into the cavity, leaving both phenyl substituents outside.
