    Notes: Abstract Bird's direct simulation Monte Carlo method for the Boltzmann equation is considered. The limit (as the number of particles tends to infinity) of the random empirical measures associated with the Bird algorithm is shown to be a deterministic measure-valued function satisfying an equation close (in a certain sense) to the Boltzmann equation. A Markov jump process is introduced, which is related to Bird's collision simulation procedure via a random time transformation. Convergence is established for the Markov process and the random time transformation. These results, together with some general properties concerning the convergence of random measures, make it possible to characterize the limiting behavior of the Bird algorithm.

    Description: Die Dolomite des Oberen Muschelkalk (mo) der Trier-Bitburger Mulde eignen sich auch als Naturwerksteine. Insbesondere die Trochitendolomitlager des mol liefern besonders verwitterungsbeständige Bruchsteine, u. a. für Rekonstruktionen römischer Gebäude in Trier. Ein Zusammenhang zwischen Klüftung, Karbonatpetrographie, Abbautechnik und Gewinnbarkeit einerseits sowie technischen Eigenschaften und Aussehen der Werkstein-Endprodukte andererseits wurde nachgewiesen.
    Description: Abstract: The dolomites of the Upper Muschelkalk (mo) of the Trier-Bitburg-Syncline are suitable for natural freestone too. Especially the Trochiten-Dolomite-Deposits of mol supply very weather-resistent freestones, among others for the reconstruction of roman buildings in Trier. A connection between jointing, petrography of carbonate, exploitafion-technology and Output on the one side as well as technological characteristics and appearance on the other side has been proved.
