Notizen: Summary Field and microplot trials were conducted. In microplot experiments the soil was artificially infested by Aspergillus flavus Link ex Fries. In field tests the percentage of A. flavus-affected kernels and in microplot experiments the number of A. flavus colonies emerging from 100 seeds was determined. As the geocarpoplane is the main frontier of pod invasion, pod surfaces were measured and the number of seedborne colonies per 100 cm2 of pod surface were calculated for each groundnut genotype. Some genotypes, which were similar in colony incidence (counts per 100 seeds), differed markedly from each other in colonization density (number of seedborne colonies as calculated per unit area of pod surface). Cultivar EC-21115 had a low incidence of seed borne colonies of A. flavus; however, the number of colonies per 100 cm2 of pod surface was high. Cv. Lavkan was low, both, in colony incidence and colonization density. Genotypes low in both these parameters should be tested as potential sources of resistance.

Beschreibung: We report on observations of a solar active region in May 1992 by the Solar Plasma Diagnostic Experiment (SPDE) in coordination with the Yohkoh satellite (producing soft X-ray images) and ground-based observatories (producing photospheric magnetograms and various filtergrams including those at the CN 3883 A line). The main focus is a study of the physical conditions of hot (T is approximately greater than 3 MK) coronal loops at their foot-points. The coronal part of the loops is fuzzy but what appear to be their footpoints in the transition region down to the photosphere are compact. Despite the morphological similarities, the footpoint emission at 10(exp 5) K is not quantitatively correlated with that at approximately 300 km above the tau (sub 5000) = 1 level, suggesting that the heat transport and therefore magnetic field topology in the intermediate layer is complicated. High resolution imaging observations with continuous temperature coverage are crucially needed.

Beschreibung: A laser diode formed of a rectangular parallelopiped body of single crystalline semiconductor material includes regions of opposite conductivity type indium phosphide extending to opposite surfaces of the body. Within the body is a PN junction at which light can be generated. A stripe of a conductive material is on the surface of the body to which the P type region extends and forms an ohmic contact with the P type region. The stripe is spaced from the side surfaces of the body and extends to the end surfaces of the body. A film of germanium is on the portions of the surface of the P type region which is not covered by the conductive stripe. The germanium film serves to conduct heat from the body and forms a blocking junction with the P type region so as to confine the current through the body, across the light generating PN junction, away from the side surfaces of the body.
