Description: The process of developing the programmed sequence of events necessary for the Voyager 2 spacecraft to return desired data from its Uranus encounter is discussed. The major steps in the sequence process are reviewed, and the elements of the Mission Sequence Software are described. The design phase and the implementation phase of the sequence process are discussed, and the Computer Command Subsystem architecture is examined in detail. The software's role in constructing the sequences and converting them into onboard programs is elucidated, and the problems unique to the Uranus encounter sequences are considered.

Description: The entire procedure of incorporating the requirements and goals of a space flight project into integrated, time ordered sequences of spacecraft commands, is called the uplink process. The Uplink Process Control Task (UPCT) was created to examine the uplink process and determine ways to improve it. The Problem Statement Language/Problem Statement Analyzer (PSL/PSA) designed to assist the designer/analyst/engineer in the preparation of specifications of an information system is used as a supporting tool to aid in the analysis. Attention is given to a definition of the uplink process, the definition of PSL/PSA, the construction of a PSA database, the value of analysis to the study of the uplink process, and the PSL/PSA lessons learned.

Description: New mission requirements and the main fetures of a new generation of tracking telemetry system designed to meet these requriements are discussed. The missions include launch vehicle support, sounding rocket mission support, and LEO satellite support, which often require support from remote sites with no existing tracking resources. To meet these requirements, the new system improves on the existing capabilities in three areas: improved RF performance, automation, and target positional accuracy. Initial results of system testing are presented. Without additional adjustment, the new system routinely falls within an absolute accuracy of +/-0.075 degrees, 3 sigma, and on most passes achieves +/-0.05 degrees, 3 sigma.
